Job Description
The Associate Content Creator develops the day-to-day communications of the Office of Health Sciences Education, creating copy for social media, blogs/news, web, email campaigns, and some print collateral. The Associate Content Creator works closely with the Senior Communications Strategist and multiple stakeholders across VU and VUSM (faculty, staff and students) to interview, research, source and create content for all VUSM channels. The Associate Content Creator manages all aspects of VUSM social media, including collaborating on and executing components of the editorial calendar, scheduling posts, and monitoring engagement across multiple social media platforms.

The Office of Health Sciences Education (OHSE) administers the professional degree programs of the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. The dedicated staff in OHSE work to provide a range of support including academic program administration, educational design and informatics, financial and administrative oversight, and student services. Our mission is to educate diverse, socially and culturally accountable future health-related professions leaders.
Our students gain the knowledge, skills, and attitudes they will need to practice safe, effective, ethical, evidence-based, and patient/client-centered health care. They are prepared to work toward larger systemic changes, understand social determinants of health, and promote equity and justice within their local and global communities.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Social media monitoring and engagement. Perform periodic sweeps of social media platforms to monitor VUSM mentions and interaction. Ensure adherence to OHSE, VUSM, VU and industry wide standards and best practices.
  • Email Newsletters - Collaborates with OHSE program content contributors and Senior Communications Strategist to produce (or coordinate/coach) timely and engagingemail newsletters.
  • Writing and content development. Engage deeply with the students, faculty, staff, of VUSM professional degree programs (housed in the Office of Health Sciences Education) to glean opportunities for compelling stories and interviews. Collaborate with Senior Communications Strategist on an editorial calendar, and from that calendar, develop content that can be deployed to:
    • Social Media - The role requires understanding the different audience and tone of each of our social media channels (Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn), craft posts that inform and engage our followers and drive them to our website(s).
    • Email Newsletters - Collaborates with OHSE program content contributors and Senior Communications Strategist to produce (or coordinate/coach) timely and engagingemail newsletters.
    • Long-form Platforms - Content such as profiles, Q & As, and news stories, will be featured on the School of Medicine website and pitched to Vanderbilt University and VUMC news and communications outlets when appropriate.
  • Social Media - The role requires understanding the different audience and tone of each of our social media channels (Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn), craft posts that inform and engage our followers and drive them to our website(s).

Qualifications

  • Ability to develop and nurture relationships with students, faculty and staff is necessary.
  • Grasp of the English language and grammar rules, as well as adaptability to required style guides (e.g. Associated Press) and brand guidelines (VU, VUSM) is necessary.
  • Strong written and spoken communication skills are necessary.
  • Experience and/or education in the fields of journalism, marketing, public relations, or strategic communications is preferred.
  • Experience of writing for (non-personal) social media, web and email newsletters is necessary.
  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, is necessary.
  • Editing, interviewing, and content/background research experience is preferred.
  • Comfort with a DSLR camera and basic photo editing skills are preferred.
  • 2-3 years of copywriting/content creation experience is necessary; 4-5 years is preferred
  • An understanding of WordPress, HTML, Emma email marketing software, and Canva is preferred.
