Job Posting Summary

The Assistant Women's Basketball Coach will assist in providing leadership in all aspects of the assigned program and will be committed to compliance with the NCAA, East Coast Conference, and Mercy College regulations.

Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Assist the head Coach with supervising athletes during practices and competition.
  • Help in the planning and implementation of both in-season and out-of-season conditioning and weight programs. Attendance should be consistent.
  • Perform other such duties that are consistent with the nature of the position and that may be requested by the head coach.
  • Assess player’s skills, monitor players during competition and practice, and keep the head Coach informed of the athletic performance of the students.
  • Submission of all required requests / paperwork.
  • Maintain a record of team statistics and requirements for lettering. (For both head coach and athletic director)
  • Successful completion of the NCAA certification exam.
  • Never leave practices, games, or any other contest where a student’s attendance is requested until the last student has left.
  • Model sport-like behavior and maintain appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectators.
  • Attending all staff meetings and carrying out scouting assignments as outlined by the head coach.
  • Ability to effectively work with a diverse population of student athletes and coaches in a cultural climate that celebrates diversity.
  • Committed to compliance with the NCAA, East Coast Conference and Mercy College policies and regulations.
  • Work within the basic framework and philosophy of the head coach of that sport and assists with determining game strategy.
  • Arrive 15 minutes before practice, 60 minutes before contests and meetings to adequately prepare and remain long enough afterwards to help players with problems or to become involved in staff discussions.
  • Assist the head coach with instructing players in the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.
  • Never criticize, admonish, or argue with head coach or any staff member within ears or eyes of players or parents.

  • Commitment to following the letter and spirit of NCAA, Conference, and College rules and regulations.
Education Requirements:
  • Successful completion of the NCAA certification exam.
Physical/Other Requirements:
  • Must be able to push, pull, move or lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to meet all general health requirements for the position as per college policies
Compensation offered will be commensurate with the educational background and work experience of the individual.
