Job Description
Responsible for both the management of the onsite team across all levels and camper behavior, the Assistant Site Director is a decisive and thoughtful educator, able to proactively organize for programmatic success and respond compassionately to daily needs. Reporting to and collaborating closely with the Site Director, they are a natural leader who values personal connections with their team.


Camper ages 3-12 years old


Activities include art, story time, sports, music, moon bounce, playground, STEM, aquatics, court and field sports, team-building


Schedule


  • Pre-season (May and early June) select evenings and weekends for training and site preparation
  • In-season (late June through August) 700 am – 345 pm Monday – Friday


Compensation $20 / hour

  • Coach your team and lead by example, providing dynamic feedback and support to ensure they gain skills in behavioral management and curricula facilitation; empathetically mediate any sensitive team dynamics
  • Actively problem solve day-to-day issues across multiple programs, working alongside the Site Director and all staff to create the best experience possible for all campers
  • Think Strategically
  • Represent the Headfirst brand daily to families at carpool and to school facility partners throughout the summer by being enthusiastic, helpful, hands-on, and in uniform
  • Be prepared to problem-solve and use your institutional and experiential knowledge to make educated, informed decisions when challenges arise
  • Manage the Big Picture
  • Expert on camper behavior management and curriculum adaptations to set each child up for success
  • Handle the Curveballs
  • Anticipate staffing, facility, or scheduling issues before they occur and appropriately communicate with the Site Director to find solutions
  • Build camp spirit as a mentor and cheerleader for all staff, creating a fun, supportive, and growth-oriented summer work experience
  • Bring Camp to Life
  • Actively lead your team in our efforts to take care of our camp facility and community
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with parents in person and on the phone regarding camper behavior and success
  • Coach staff to better guide campers’ emotional, physical, and social development through hands-on exploration and developmentally appropriate activities
  • Represent Headfirst for Families & Facility Partners
  • Act as the go-to person for camper behavioral support; work with your Site Director to intervene, problem-solve, coach staff on strategies, and serve as the liaison for families regarding campers’ physical and emotional safety in programming
  • Bring your strengths and acknowledge there’s room for growth and learning
  • Practice resiliency and arrive with a “How Can I Help?” mentality that puts camper experience and team success at the forefront through problem solving and trying new things
  • Implement Headfirst’s safety protocols on supervision, bathrooms, emergency medications, and camper behavior management
  • Communicate Positively and Proactively
  • Welcome staff to site and be the onsite expert on rolling hire training, staff policies, ongoing professional development, and support staff in answering FAQs

Completed at least (3) years from an accredited undergraduate institution or have equivalent educational experience.


Experience


  • At least three (3) years of relevant professional experience working with children of all ages
  • Majors in education, sports management, child development and social work fields viewed favorably
  • Experience leading a team of direct reports


Must be able to


  • Lift and carry up to 30 pounds as needed.
  • Work in hot outdoor environments.
  • Perform all job-related tasks, including but not limited to sitting, squatting, kneeling, standing, running, and climbing stairs both in school buildings and on grass fields for the entire workday.
