Job Title: Assistant Groundskeeper

The Assistant Groundskeeper will participate in the oversight and performance of field maintenance which includes playing surfaces/fields at the Sounders FC Center at Longacres headquarters and training facility. This role will have a sound knowledge of ground maintenance tools, techniques, and practices, as well as skilled and semi-skilled grounds maintenance functions. This role will also assist in directing and supervising ground crew team members and maintain the necessary equipment needed to accomplish tasks in a timely and efficient manner.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Other duties may be assigned.
  • Participates in maintenance and daily responsibilities for fields and grounds including mowing, irrigation, fertilizing, pesticide applications, field painting, cultural turfgrass practices, equipment operation and maintenance and snow removal per strategic plans and defined maintenance standards.
  • Performs seasonal maintenance of the equipment fleet and ensures proper maintenance is performed in a timely manner.
  • Assists with ordering and maintaining products necessary for ground maintenance.
  • Ensures the safe operation of light duty vehicles such as mowers, tractors, and trucks.
  • Assists in managing inventory and the preventive equipment maintenance and replacement programs.
  • Participates in training, scheduling, and deploying of personnel to accomplish the work in compliance with OSHA and Worker Right-to Know standards.
  • Assists in maintaining and ensuring necessary practice equipment (goals, benches, etc.) is set up, and in good working condition.
  • Fosters professional relationships with coaching staff, first team support staff, players, co-workers, and tenants.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be detail-oriented and highly organized with the ability to prioritize and juggle tasks.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain WA State Pesticide Applicator's license.
  • Knowledge of basic turfgrass/grounds maintenance practices.
  • Ability to proficiently operate turf related equipment (i.e., tractors, mowers, aerifiers, field paint machine).
  • 2+ years of ground maintenance related work experience in professional/collegiate athletics preferred.
  • Candidate must have strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of basic computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel & Outlook)
  • Ability to perform physical labor for extended periods of time and in various weather conditions.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Must be able to facilitate own local travel.
  • Must be eligible to work in the US without sponsorship.
  • This position will work in-person from the Sounders FC Center at Longacres headquarters and training facility in Renton, WA.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, as needed.
  • Must be fully vaccinated at the time of hire and follow all club and league COVID-19 protocols.
  • Responsibilities include regular work outdoors and may require standing on feet for long periods of time, as well as some lifting of up to 40 pounds.
  • Must have a valid drivers license.

The annual compensation range for this position is $53,422 - $74,800. Base pay at time of offer will take into account job-related knowledge, skills and experience required for the role, internal equity and market.
