Dark Horse Comics, a publisher of comics, graphic novels, manga, and pop culture art books in Milwaukie, OR, is seeking to hire a full-time entry-level Assistant Editor to join our growing team!

As an Assistant Editor, you are a member of multiple editorial teams, each led by an Editor, providing administrative support on all of the titles that team is responsible for editing.

Candidates must demonstrate a meticulous attention to detail, the ability to meet tight deadlines without compromising quality, and robust skills in organization and communication.

Your primary responsibilities include:

  • Compiling shipping addresses for the delivery of comp copies
  • Applying to the Library of Congress for CIP data
  • Communicating with creators, licensors, and other Dark Horse departments as directed by your supervising Editors
  • Quality checking digital publishing files for Dark Horse Digital
  • Filling out book maps accurately
  • Writing compelling solicitation copy
  • Saving and organizing editorial files
  • Generating creator payment vouchers for the Accounting department and tracking the status of creator payments
  • Writing thorough and actionable work orders for the Design and Digital Art departments
  • Submitting creative materials to IP owners for their approval and routing their feedback
  • Quality checking and proofreading proofs at multiple stages: prior to entering the Prepress department, prior to being sent to the printer, and prior to being printed
  • Tracking schedules and deadlines
  • Submitting contract requests to the Legal department
Requirements:

  • Ability to maintain a professional demeanor when under pressure
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Familiarity with comics, book publishing, and pop culture
  • Ability to be proactive and work independently, as well as within a group
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Fluency in Google Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, and Zoom
  • Highly organized
  • Ability to prioritize in order to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
