The Office of Student Advocacy and Support seeks qualified applicants for the position of Assistant Director for Student Support and Community Outreach. Under the direction of the Director of Advocacy and Support, the Assistant Director helps provide appropriate follow-up for students in need of additional resources to bolster mental health, well-being, and academic success. Responsibilities will include assisting the Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT) by triaging, coordinating, and tracking response to community generated care reports regarding students-of-concern. The ideal candidate will be an advocate for student success and possess a demonstrated ability to multi-task and manage a diverse caseload. The successful candidate will build and maintain a network of referral resources and community services.

Bachelor’s degree in education, social work or closely related field plus 4 years of working with college students required. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate information in a clear and understandable manner, both verbally and in writing necessary. Experience and ability in working with vulnerable populations essential. Ability to professionally interact with and respond to staff, faculty, students, parents, community partners, and administration required. Must have ability to work effectively as part of a team. Demonstrated experience working with college students including diverse and/or underrepresented college student populations necessary. Must have demonstrated capacity to take initiative and work productively with minimal supervision. Ability to organize work effectively, conceptualize and prioritize objectives and exercise independent judgment based on an understanding of organizational policies and activities essential. Ability to integrate resources, policies, and information for the determination of procedures, solutions, and other outcomes required. Must have ability to respond to urgent situations in a timely manner. Excellent computer skills and proficiency with a variety of computer applications including word-processing, spreadsheets, databases, online systems, social media platforms, Internet as well as online calendaring and email essential. Ability to effectively perform work of a highly sensitive and confidential nature that requires access to information necessary. Must have ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion, tact, and diplomacy.
Preferred QualificationsMaster’s degree preferred. Work experience in an academic setting, ideally in counseling, social work, student affairs counseling, or related field desirable. Experience working as part of a case management support team helpful. Prefer knowledge of behavioral intervention team policies and procedures. Familiarity with UNL-specific software programs, including PeopleSoft, Maxient, and MyPlan helpful. Previous experience in a higher education environment desirable. Prefer experience working as a victim advocate at a college or university. Previous experience providing supervision to professional staff and graduate student assistants preferred.
Posted Salary $55,000/yr. minimum
