The Office of Undergraduate Admissions serves to recruit and enroll students to the University of New England for a variety of undergraduate programs. With a primary concentration on prospective students, the office focuses on generating interest in UNE, fostering and sustaining relationships with students and families and introducing them to the campus community.

The Assistant Director is a key position in the functionality of the Admissions Office. The Assistant Director participates fully in shared admissions office functions such as recruitment travel to high school visits, college fairs, and panels, holistically review admissions applications, connect with prospective students and families in-person or virtually, and attend admissions recruitment and yield events. Additionally, the position coordinates one or more specialized functions of the Admissions Office; has direct supervision over admissions counselors; and assists the Associate Director with general department management.

Responsibilities
  • Review admissions applications and recommend action.
  • Commit to actively fostering a welcoming culture of inclusion and diversity.
  • Perform basic data input and data retrieval tasks using automated admissions records systems.
  • Represent the University as prospective student recruiter, usually within a designated geographic area, visit high schools to meet with guidance counselors and students, attend college fairs, conduct on-spot review days, and develop useful professional contacts.
  • Coordinate and oversee one or more specialized admissions functions, which may include – but may not necessarily be limited to — the following:
    • Collaborate with the Associate Director and Admissions Marketing and Operations (AMO) team on strategy, planning and implementations of virtual recruitment, including but not limited to virtual information sessions, Discover UNE and New Nor’easter event series.
    • Manage the preparation and execution of virtual admissions events including communication with AMO team, topic and script development, and conduct virtual programming.
    • Coordination with Associate Director and travel coordinator on virtual college fairs.
  • Participate in general departmental research, planning and evaluation functions, such as developing marketing strategies and specific recruitment programs and schedules, preparing enrollment projections, and the like.
  • Assist in leading the Undergraduate Admission team.
  • Coordination with Associate Director and travel coordinator on virtual college fairs.
  • Confer regularly with supervisor, other Admissions staff and various UNE administrators and faculty to plan, coordinate and evaluate activities/projects/systems, consult on specific applications, exchange information, investigate and resolve problems, and the like.
  • Keep abreast of current UNE programs, policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with the Associate Director and Admissions Marketing and Operations (AMO) team on strategy, planning and implementations of virtual recruitment, including but not limited to virtual information sessions, Discover UNE and New Nor’easter event series.
  • Perform other related duties as necessary.
  • Meet with students applying for admission to the University, both in person and virtually.
  • Assist the Associate Director with department administrative tasks and functions, including development, implementation, evaluation, and revision of operating policies, procedures, forms, systems; staff hiring, training and supervision; preparation of regular and special reports; and the like.
  • Understanding and committing to job responsibilities that may change due to the competitive Admissions landscape.
  • Manage the preparation and execution of virtual admissions events including communication with AMO team, topic and script development, and conduct virtual programming.


Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required, with a master’s degree desirable, plus four to six years of relevant experience in higher education administration, including at least two years of admissions experience, or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired.
  • Ability to effectively supervise and prioritized the work of moderate-sized and varied Admissions staff.
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of people, and differing constituencies.
  • Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of Admissions and related disciplines, willingness and ability to keep abreast of changes in admissions policy and practices.
  • Ability to travel as necessary.
  • Ability to work from conception to implementation in the creation and conduct of Admissions programs.
  • Ability to work creatively in the resolution of problems.
