Job Description
Position Function


Responsible for the development and execution of comprehensive marketing plans that drive growth and improve brand awareness for online programs and provides marketing support for the Center for Distance Education (CDE) and the College of Professional and Continuing Studies (CPCS). Provides leadership for planning, developing, designing,and managing the coordination for marketing activities for the center aligning with the rapidly changing environment of marketing in online education. Build a positive, participatory team relationship within the marketing unit and within the center as well as between the center and industries, governmental agencies, academic units on campus as other clientele groups.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities


  • Assist in managing marketing research and devising and analysis/strategies for CDE, CPCS, and departments.
  • Oversee and coordinate marketing, advertising, and promotional activities, as well as media coverage while collaborating with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with other CDE and CPCS staff and various departments on campus to develop and implement marketing plans, goals, and objectives for courses and programs.
  • Establish and manage the marketing budget, including forecasting and monitoring expenses.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
  • Engage actively in relevant regional and national associations.
  • Evaluate and report on the effectiveness of marketing initiatives, including campaign performance, enrollment metrics, and return on investment.
  • Supervise and support marketing staff in executing all CDE and CPCS strategic marketing and communication projects, with the goal to increase enrollment and enhance brand awareness.
  • Create and curate multimedia content that offers key insights into online education and shares compelling stories for various objectives, including stewardship, branding, recruitment, fundraising, and awareness campaigns.
  • Stay current on industry trends, emerging marketing channels, and best practices in online and adult education marketing.
  • Develop and write feature articles and other content for the website, university magazines, press releases, etc., by collaborating with and interviewing alumni, faculty, staff, students, and other community members.
  • Collaborate effectively with MSU Office of Public Affairs to ensure compliance with MSU marketing and communications standards.
  • Monitor analytics can consistently review social media channels, website digital advertising, print materials, and other marketing strategies, using data to adjust content strategy and guide new campaigns.

Minimum Qualifications


Master's Degree: Marketing, Public Relations, or Related Field.


3 years marketing experience


2 years supervisory experience


Preferred Qualifications


Marketing experience in higher education and/or online education


Experience in leading a marketing team


Experience With a Higher Education CRM (Slate Preferred)


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:


  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while adhering to deadlines.
  • Experience in working within team environments and collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the capacity to produce effective marketing copy and communicate with internal an external stakeholders.
  • Proficient in marketing automation platforms, email marketing tools, social media management, and content management systems.
  • Demonstrated success in developing and implementing successful marketing campaigns that drive lead generation and enrollment growth.
  • Enthusiastic about online and adult education and driven to create a meaningful impact on the lives of students.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to analyze data and make informed decisions based on performance metrics.
  • Strategic thinker with demonstrated knowledge of principles of integrated marketing and communications, especially with creating and executing a multichannel content strategy that drives increased engagement.


Working Conditions and Physical Effort


  • Vision requirement: Ability to see information in print and/or electronically.
  • No unusual physical requirements. Requires limited lifting of files and records and nearly all work id performed in a comfortable indoor facility.
  • Job frequently requires walking, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, standing, and handling objects with hands.
