What we want
Texas A&M University’s teaching site in Washington, D.C. is located just blocks from the White House. Our inaugural program features The Bush School of Government and Public Service, with plans for participation by other schools and colleges in the future. We are currently recruiting for an Assistant Director of Admissions.
The Assistant Director of Admissions develops and executes admission plans for the graduate degree departments (INTA, PSAA) at the Bush School of Government & Public Service, Texas A&M University, Washington, D.C. teaching site. This includes managing tactical operations and developing strategies to meet admissions goals by tracking/extracting data and developing reports related to enrollment management. Furthermore, the person in this role manages all aspects of the application process for both internal and external stakeholders, including applicant advising, relationship building and management, processing application materials, evaluating applicant credentials, assisting in candidate selection, notifying candidates of results, and fostering class cohesion. Additional responsibilities include the review of admissions policies and procedures for all degree programs to ensure compliance with federal, state, and university guidelines. May supervise student workers in applicant and admissions processing. Builds and maintains strong relationships with Texas A&M University offices. Participates and assists in the planning and managing of recruitment and outreach activities.

Required Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Six (6) years of relevant professional experience in admissions, academic affairs, higher education administration, business, and similar fields
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Proven ability to work in a team context and to set priorities, manage competing demands, and to provide timely responses to issues
  • Organizational and time management skills
  • Strong communication skills, including interpersonal, oral and written
  • Must be customer-service oriented and highly sensitive with confidential admissions information
  • Ability to think strategically, particularly in admissions processing
Other Requirements:
  • Must have flexibility to work evening hours on a regular basis, as well as occasional weekends, in order to accommodate students.
Preferred Experience:
  • Supervisory experience
  • More than six years of relevant professional experience, particularly in higher education administration (recruiting, admissions, academic affairs, administration) and increased responsibility in a competitive graduate or undergraduate admissions office
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of academic programs and graduate-level admissions in public and/or international affairs
  • Knowledge of using technology in recruitment and admissions activities, including database management, report generation, and general Microsoft Office experience
  • More specifically, knowledge with Texas A&M University’s Student Information System (Compass) and Customer Relationship Management (CRM – Salesforce) technology
  • Working knowledge in a data-driven, analytical, decision-making environment
  • Knowledge of student support services at the University (to include International Student Services, Veterans’ Services, Financial Aid, and more)
Responsibilities:
  • Admissions - Manages tactical operations and develops strategies in admissions to meet enrollment goals by tracking/extracting data and developing reports related to enrollment management. Manages all aspects of the admissions process for both internal and external stakeholders, including applicant advising, relationship building and management, processing application materials, evaluating applicant credentials, assisting in candidate selection, notifying candidates of results, and fostering class cohesion. Reviews admissions policies and procedures for all degree programs to ensure compliance with federal, state, and university guidelines.
  • Recruitment/Communications - Assists with recruitment efforts to promote the programs and strategically communicate with prospects through the admissions process. Participates in recruitment events, to include attending fairs, hosting visitors on campus individually or for events, visiting classes, presenting at events, etc. Helps coordinate events for recruitment and yield. Collaborates with Digital Marketing Coordinator (in College Station) to ensure that website content for admissions in Washington, DC is current and relevant. Communicates effectively with prospective students in person and through communication tools to encourage their application and enrollment at the Bush School – Washington, DC campus. Utilizes Customer Relationship Manager (CRM – Salesforce), for tracking prospects through the enrollment funnel. Assists with multiple communication campaigns for different groups and timelines. Analyzes data after running audits on student data and gauges recruitment effectiveness. Ensures strong customer service and helps build relationships with prospects throughout the admissions cycle.
  • Administration and Academic Functions - Collaborates with Director of Admissions and Recruitment in College Station to prepare a comprehensive recruitment plan to reach enrollment goals. Develops relationships with faculty and administration to participate in the recruitment plan and provides student statistical data reporting support when asked. Develops and monitors statistical reports to enhance recruitment strategies, yield management, and forecasting. Serves on college and University-wide committees as assigned. Performs other duties as assigned.
