Job Description
Coker University is seeking qualified applicants for the Assistant Dean of Humanities and Sciences position beginning July 2023. This is a full-time, 12-month faculty position with a five-course teaching load over the academic year, reporting to the Dean of the Coker College of Humanities and Sciences. The Assistant Dean of Humanities and Sciences, in collaboration with the Dean of Humanities and Sciences, will assist with providing collaborative leadership to support initiatives in humanities and sciences program areas. With a commitment to the mission of the student-centered university, the Assistant Dean is expected to effectively understand and communicate policies and procedures among faculty and students. Preferred qualifications include a Ph.D. in related content area and at least five years experience in higher education. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Engage with faculty to develop and implement relevant student success and retention initiatives; Promote and support student opportunities in undergraduate research and educational travel; Collaborate with the dean in the search for new faculty members for any program area within the College of Humanities and Sciences; Consult with the program coordinators on the hiring and evaluation of adjunct faculty; communicate with adjunct faculty concerning policies and procedures; work with the program coordinators and Office of the Provost to confirm adjunct and overload contracts; work with program coordinators to evaluate all adjunct faculty; Support the Dean in developing budget requests for relevant programs; Investigate potential capital expenditures for facilities and equipment for each program; Work with the program coordinators to prepare and submit the schedule of classes; Serve as liaison to the General Education Committee to confirm Humanities and Sciences faculty are including required syllabus elements and assessment requirements in all General Education courses; Serve as liaison to the Dean of Digital Learning to confirm courses for Acadeum and to provide supporting materials to include the preparation and submission of general syllabi for online Acadeum courses; Collaboratively engage in the shared governance of the University; Foster collaboration among University leadership; Support the efforts of the strategic plan to reach University goals; Teaching responsibilities and other duties as assigned.
