Job Description
We are currently seeking a talented, enthusiastic individual to join our Client Advisory Services group as an Assistant Controller. The Assistant Controller is responsible for assisting our clients with their internal accounting needs by performing and reviewing a variety of complex diversified accounting tasks. This includes managing multiple projects and client relationships simultaneously. Tasks are typically conducted with little to no direct supervision. Delegation and supervisory responsibilities will occur with less experienced staff. This position also involves working cross-departmentally with other Boulay Departments (most typically due diligence and valuation teams) to effectively accomplish projects and tasks.

Responsibilities:


  • Delegate and oversee Secretary of State renewals for appropriate clients
  • Work with the tax department to ensure efficient and timely tax return preparation as completed by the tax department or other 3rd party tax preparer
  • Delegate, oversee, review, and conduct business process outsourcing work for newly acquired businesses including, but not limited to: transaction entry, invoicing, bill payments, bank and credit card reconciliations, adjusting journal entries, cash flow needs, and month-end/year-end close
  • Discuss and explain accounting transactions/processes with clients in a group or one-on-one setting
  • Delegate, oversee, and review outsourcing engagement letters, initial set-up and maintenance of client files and workflows
  • Identify issues and significant findings and recognize potential risks, concerns, or issues regarding the client file
  • Assist clients with recommendations to improve client’s internal accounting procedures, accuracy, and internal controls
  • Assist clients with various controller services, including, but not limited to: month-end close review, budgeting, forecasting, analytics and various ad hoc projects
  • Assist with assessment of client’s business practices and identify potential solutions/improvements
  • Prepare trial balances and financial statements
  • Review 1099 preparation with the tax department and timely deliver to client
  • Review and conduct various recurring and ad-hoc client reporting needs


Requirements


  • Strong computer skills and proficiency in various accounting and other software, including Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge of financial statement procedures
  • Ability to creatively solve problems and analyze client data
  • Ability to effectively delegate, supervise, and review work of less experienced staff
  • 5+ years of progressively challenging accounting experience
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • Strong knowledge of all areas of the general ledger
  • Experience with QuickBooks (desktop or on-line)
  • Strong knowledge of month-end / year-end close procedures
