Introduction
Representative Jenna Jacobson (D-Oregon) is currently hiring a full-time Legislative Assistant to work in their office at the Wisconsin State Capitol in Madison.
Position Summary
Duties for this position include, but are not limited to:
- Managing constituent inquiries and casework, including management of a constituent database.
- Acting as a liaison for the Representative between members of the Assembly, Senate, and other legislative and state agencies;
- Committee clerking duties;
- Drafting and publishing press releases, newsletters, and other needed communications; and
- Researching and making recommendations concerning legislative policies, rules, and proposed legislation to the Representative;
- Keeping the Representative advised of legislation, legal opinions, court decisions and precedents, by attending public hearings, executive sessions, and agency meetings;
- Collaborating with the Legislative Reference Bureau, Legislative Council, and other service agencies to draft solid legislation and analyze Administrative Rules and Legislative Committee reports;
- Developing and implementing operating procedures for the office;
Salary Information
The salary range for this position is $40,373-$61,543 per year. Starting salary is dependent upon relevant work experience and education. In addition, this position receives the same fringe benefits available to other State of Wisconsin employees. - Ability to formulate and initiate operating plans and procedures and to direct their application;
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, members, administrative officials, and the general public;
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of office management, including constituent service;
- Knowledge of functions, policies, rules, laws, and regulations pertaining to the Wisconsin State Assembly;
- Ability to engage with stakeholders inside and outside of the Legislature to gain insights, plan events, etc.;
- Effective written and oral communication skills;
- The ability to multitask, be organized, and stay focused in a fast-paced environment;
- Ability to craft relevant press releases, e-updates and social media;
