ABB's Distribution Solutions Division provides utility, industrial and commercial customers with safe, smart and sustainable technologies for the distribution of electricity. With ABB AbilityTM enabled digital solutions at its core, our extensive portfolio includes distribution automation products, switching, limiting, measuring and sensing devices, switchgear, modular substation packages, and related services. The role reports to the Production Manager and is located in Florence, South Carolina. As a Assembler 3, you will be responsible for supporting the Florence facility in achieving the set production targets by adhering to the appropriate health and safety policies, and approved manufacturing systems, processes, and procedures. Correctly use machinery, equipment, power tools, and hand tools made available on the floor. Be able to read and interpret the technical diagrams and instructions for assembly of various electro-mechanical products (circuit breakers, relays, switchgear, and contactors). Perform assembly operation consisting of wiring to final completion or refurbishment, on circuit breakers, panels, coil winding and assembly of sub-assemblies and finished parts with small components consisting of such items as capacitors, micro-chips, resistors, transformers, indicators, wires and switches, and printed circuit boards and other products in accordance with product specification sheets, drawings and methods, schedules, and customer needs. Setup and assemble circuit breakers and circuit breaker sub-assemblies, electromechanical, solid state and microprocessor-based protective relays, switches, and other electro-mechanical and electronic assemblies.

Your responsibilities

  • Perform assembly and/or test duties as required by drawings or work instructions
  • Skill set may include regular quality testing as part of production process.
  • Ability to work independently
  • Participates in process improvements and cost savings ideas
  • Report material defects and shortage to supervisor or operational specialist
  • Assistance in identifying and initiating process, method, or drawing updates/changes
  • Perform duties in accordance with the Quality, Safety and Environmental Management Systems and required PPE
  • Conducts all types of assembly work to produce a semi-finished or final product, including the packing where integrated with production lines
  • Maintain tools, equipment and working area in a clean and orderly condition
  • Work is typically manual using light hand tools
  • Follow methods and drawing information required to assemble circuit breakers, panels relays/switches/electronic assemblies and other products
  • Support quality manufacturing goals, productivity, and on-time shipment goals

Your background

  • Demonstrated knowledge of manufacturing and electronic component assembly, wiring
  • Must be able to read, speak and write English
  • Ability to solder
  • Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret Engineering configuration and wiring drawings
  • High School degree plus 2 or more years of related experience in assembly. Alternatively, a special combination of education and experience and/or demonstrated accomplishments. Capable of reading and interpreting Engineering configuration and wiring drawings
