Role Mission:


The Art Teacher equips and inspires students to appreciate and understand artistic concepts and the joy of artistic creation and expression. In this role, you will build relationships that help instill the joy of life-long learning and arts appreciation in our scholars, collaborate closely with your coach, team members, and your students’ families, and use coaching and assessment data to continually improve your effectiveness, all for the benefit of our scholars.


Your Impact:


  • Participate in collaborative curriculum development, grade-level activities, and school-wide functions;
  • Expose students to art from a variety of styles and media;
  • Analyze student achievement data collaboratively with colleagues to critically and strategically respond to the needs of students;
  • Design and execute art showcasing opportunities for all scholars;
  • Participate in annual three-week staff training.
  • Work to continuously improve effectiveness in all instructional practices, using school’s teacher performance rubric as a guide;
  • Build a culture in which students love and appreciate art;
  • Be accountable for students’ mastery of academic standards; and,
  • Teach and maintain school-wide systems, rules and consequences, and rewards;
  • Build positive relationships with students grounded in respect, enthusiasm, achievement, courage, hard work and self-determination through structured social-emotional learning;
  • Develop and implement rigorous, standards-aligned lesson plans;
  • Communicate effectively and proactively with students, families, and colleagues;
  • Establish and lead a well-rounded first-class art program at Vista College Prep;


Your Qualifications:


  • Track record of producing dramatic, demonstrable student achievement gains or comparable results in their current field;
  • Valid IVP fingerprint clearance card.
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree;
  • Mastery of and enthusiasm for arts education;
  • Minimum of two years art teaching experience in urban public school setting preferred, but not required;
  • Excellent verbal, written and organizational skills;
  • Ability to approach situations with optimism and perseverance;
