Position Summary:

Bechtel is seeking an Area Manager for the Manufacturing & Technology team to lead the execution for onsite support building erection, onsite preassembly, and heavy commodity rack installation. The successful applicant will be assigned to the construction organization as an Area Manager. The position will involve interaction with engineering, procurement, and construction supervision to develop and execute an integrated plan from Engineering prioritization, Procurement expediting, Subcontract formation and Field crew execution. The role will require a strong leader who will establish priority, distribute tasks, and owns the execution and follow through.

Responsibilities:

The Area Manager is principally responsible for:

• Establish a design/construction working relationship and lines of communication with the Project Engineer, including the agreement on engineering deliverables related to modularization.
• Take responsibility for the implementation of the equipment and tooling within the Fab support buildings, trestles and racks.
• Implement controls over variables affecting job progress to ensure engineering and procurement provide timely delivery of drawings, materials and equipment and that other corporate programs are fully utilized as required.
• Coordinate with engineering on constructability and design issues.
• Develop Heavy Haul and Rigging Plan Concepts
• Develop a Modularization and Preassembly plan for buildings, trestles and pipe-racks.
• Coordinate with Area Managers and Subcontractors to plan/support construction schedules.
• Plan and recommend procedures to be implemented by Field Supervision to ensure construction operations are within requirements of engineering design and specifications.
• Direct the preparation of cost estimates and comparisons for modularization and preassemblies alternatives and present options for evaluation by the Management Team and Client.
• Coordinate Site Logistics with other Areas
• Preparation of Safety Plans to execute erection methods.

Qualifications and Skills:

Basic Qualifications:

The Area Manager shall be knowledgeable and/or experienced in:

• A recognized degree in an engineering or scientific discipline from an accredited university, with a minimum of 10 years relevant work experience OR specialized courses in construction technology and management, and/or prior practical work experience leading to a thorough understanding of the knowledge described above, with a minimum of 15 years relevant work experience.

Additional Qualifications:

• Must be computer-literate in word processing, spreadsheet and database applications.
• Understands and applies the requirements of the Project Environmental, Safety & Health handbook and the Bechtel Core Processes to area of responsibility.
• Advanced knowledge of cost management including estimating and forecast development.
• 10 years relevant work experience in direct execution construction.
• Knowledge of environmental compliance laws and requirements.
• Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
• Extensive background in industrial construction projects, managing staff, providing leadership, maintaining good client relationships and developing talent within the project.
• Must be familiar with current industry quality standards.
• Advanced knowledge of work packaging.
• Knowledge of Bechtel’s Zero Accident Safety Philosophy.
• Knowledge of the impact and effect of using field automation tools.
• Knowledge of EPC Project Execution. Thorough knowledge of construction activities as they relate to engineering disciplines, cost and scheduling, and contract administration. Knowledge of the use of subcontracts.
