Job Description
LAC Federal is seeking an Archivist to provide archival processing and reference services focused on the history of the armed forces, U.S. Government public administration and veterans. The Archivist will work with the Senior Archivist to process physical and digital archival collections conducting sufficient research to create detailed finding aids. During processing, the Archivist will recommend appropriate arrangement and level of descriptions and any necessary curation and stabilization activities. This may include preservation reformatting and support of an ongoing retrospective digitization program. The Archivist will support research and reference using the archives using knowledge of the collection and its organization. The Archivist will also provide reference service support for up to 200 requests annually utilizing the resources of the archives.
Position Responsibilities:
  • Provide reference and users support services including creation of bibliographies
  • Create item, folder, box, and series level inventories as appropriate
  • Create and update finding aids
  • General administrative responsibilities
  • Provide archival descriptions and occasionally cataloging of materials
  • Provides support for research projects undertaken by the archives
  • Processing of original and record-copy archival materials including rehousing, minimal conservation, and preservation
  • Identify additional preservation and conservation needs for materials and work with curator
Requirements
  • Master’s degree in Library and Information Science, Archives
  • At least three years of experience in a professional archival setting performing all or most of the responsibilities for this position including records management, appraisal, processing, description, preservation, conservation, and digitization of analog and digital records.
  • Able to lift 30-pound boxes of archival material.
  • Bachelor’s degree in history, museum studies or related field
