Job Description
Summary About the Position: Works under the general supervision of the Division Chief, who advises on policy and regulatory changes and outlines broad program and project objectives. Serve as an Archivist assisting in the accomplishment of the Division mission and functions specifically in the area of digital archives, primarily collected from contingency and combat operations, are properly maintained and accessible to researchers. Responsibilities Participate in the planning and affecting a comprehensive program for the full utilization and exploitation of Army records and manuscripts in the historical research and writing projects. Oversee and ensure that digital materials being brought into the digital archive, irrespective of format are correctly uploaded according to CMH?s digital archival standards and metrics, for which the incumbent is responsible. Analyze newly acquired records by the Division for value of historical content and potential use in providing information on which to base replies to future requests for historical information about US Army and related activities. Develop definitive analytical guides with subject, author, title, and office of origin indexes for selected groups or series of records and personal papers received in the Center of Military History. Interview, advise, and confer with historians of other agencies, private historians, biographers, newspaper reporters, etc., to make possible the effective use of official documents in expanding the field of military history. Coordinate and forward all nonapplicable Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests to appropriate DA or DOD FOIA authorities for action. To qualify for this position you must meet the qualification requirements listed below: Basic education Requirement for a Archivist A bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in archival science; or bachelor's degree (or higher degree) with a major that includes 18 semester hours in archival science, history and/or in political science or government, and 12 semester hours in one or any combination of the following: archival science, history, American civilization, economics, political science, public administration, or government. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) In addition to meeting the basic requirements above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: analyzing newly acquired records for value of historical content on historical information using electronic or digital records keeping programs; working with the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests to assure compliance with statutory deadlines and requirements for response; processing litigation holds for record freezes; planning comprehensive records and manuscript for historical research and writing projects; managing and organizing electronic archives. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: History and Archaeology Management Tools Oral Communication Writing Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11). Education FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
