Apprentice Inspector (H&S) - Open Restaurant Program

The selected candidates will inspect over 11,000 Open Restaurants citywide to ensure compliance with DOT specifications and rules. They will be required to properly route daily work and submit daily reports; describe in full detail to restaurant owners what any issues may be and how to properly correct them; investigate complaints and reports on their findings; evaluate conditions and take appropriate action using Corrective Action Requests (CARs), and Repair Orders; issue summonses and appear in court when required; work with contractors when repair and construction of sewers, house sewer connections, retaining walls, streets and street openings must take place under any Open Street Restaurant locations; must be able to use various devices (tablet, phone, camera, laptop or an iPAD), which will be required to use DOT’s PRISM System to track all inspections; may be required to operate a passenger vehicle and monitor its mileage and and must monitor the vehicle mileage and all assigned equipment; respond to work-related emails, phone calls, or text messages. May perform related duties and inspections as assigned by the immediate Supervisor or Manager.

License Requirement
Must possess a motor vehicle driver license valid in the State of New York. This license must be maintained for the duration of employment.

The Apprentice Highway and Sewer Inspector position is an apprenticeship program with various salary levels. Once in the program and after successfully completing a probationary period, salary will automatically increase each year (annual anniversary of the original appointment date) to the following designation levels:
New Hire Rate $33,019 Incumbent Rate:$37,972
After completion of the first year $35,873/$41,254
After completion of the second year $44,611
After completion of the third year $48,253
After completion of the fourth year $51,891
