Work with the Design Director on seasonal design concepts to bring new ideas and innovations to the product line. Construction: Provide expertise in creating apparel styles - build technical styles from start to finish and be able to suggest effective construction techniques. Research:
Stay on top of consumer, product, outdoor and travel industry trends, being an expert in your categories. Ideation:
Generate sketches and drawings in a way that communicates designs effectively. Materials:
With a keen eye for application, research and select new materials, design custom fabrics and trims and partner with the material team on creating custom material solutions. Tech Packs : Create detailed technical drawings and specification packages for both prototyping and production. Sample Review : Participate in proto reviews and update all files. Color:
Provide color concepts and work with colorists on design intent. Sustainability:
Contribute to sustainability efforts as it relates to product design and development. Cross-Functional Partnerships : Communicate effectively and work collaboratively in a team environment with product management, merchandising, product development, sales and planning. Presentations:
Create and present design presentations in cross-functional meetings for big picture concepts, detailing the whole design process. Travel:
Travel domestically and internationally to attend trade shows, inspiration trips and factory visits. The Ideal Candidate (What You Need to Succeed): A Bachelor's Degree in Apparel Design or similar field, or equivalent experience. About 5 years of post-graduate apparel design experience, ideally in the outdoor/active/lifestyle industry. Experience with designing sportswear, outerwear, and technical apparel. Apparel construction knowledge, preferrably with a background in textile and color. Expert knowledge in assembling a detailed technical package to communicate proper instruction to agents/factories for initial or in process style development. Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign. Ability to travel ~15% of the time both domestically and internationally. Passion for your craft and familiarity with the types of products we make. You don’t need to be an outdoor expert, but you do need to be knowledgeable about outdoor apparel. Currently located in or planning to relocate to: California, Colorado, Georgia, Idaho, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Washington or Wyoming.
