Job Description

Would you like to be part of a team that cares for dogs and helps them find their forever home?

Nevada Humane Society would love to connect with you!

As a dog caregiver with NHS, you will have an opportunity to learn about animal sheltering, dog handling, and dog breeds, all while helping people and animals find their best match; you will help dogs and people connect, setting dogs from tough situations up to be spoiled for the rest of their life. This role is unlike any other animal care role: fulfilling, ever-changing, and making a daily difference in the lives of people and animals!

A fully onboarded dog caregiver with NHS will work with the animal care team in four 10-hour shifts

to feed, clean, and care for over 40-60 dogs a day

and to be part of more than ten adoptions every week.

Additional Details

We offer a variety of benefits, including:

  • 90% paid employee medical and vision,
  • PTO starting at two weeks a year for full time
  • And opportunities for internal movement.
  • 401k,
  • Separate dental,

Who You Are

  • A successful hire for this role will be a balance of a dog-person and a people-person: they will be here for the dogs but know that it takes adopters and the public to get dogs into homes.
  • Finally, they will want to learn and are ready to take NHS procedures and practice into their own.
  • They will enjoy talking with and educating adopters and the public, asking questions and having upbeat conversations about dog care.
  • They will know how to put themselves in both people’s shoes and dog’s shoes and look at each situation from all sides.
  • They will have the heart to care for the dogs and each other but also the mental strength to stay calm in tough situations.
  • They are also not afraid of manual labor and know that caring for dogs means a lot of dirty, hard work.

Who We Are

Working at NHS means working for a team that is a little bit quirky but also committed to the mission and vision. It means always having someone around that wants to look at that cute photo of your cat lounging on your bed or of your happy, dirty pupper after playing at the dog park. We've also identified that, in addition to mental resilience, successful NHS staffers possess a sense of humor or wit and internal drive. For our dog caregivers, it also means being focused and driven, as part of a team that supports and pulls from each other.
