Job Description

JOB SUMMARY: The Anesthesiologist is responsible for acting as attending anesthesiologist with direct responsibility for patient care. The anesthesiologist provides anesthesia for patients undergoing surgical, diagnostic, or therapeutic procedures while monitoring the patient’s condition and supporting vital organ functions.

This position is a Safety Sensitive Position. The essential functions, physical demands, and mental competencies of this job require the employee maintain the ability to work in a constant state of alertness in a safe manner.

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, LICENSURE, REGISTRATION:
1. Current and unrestricted Arkansas medical license.
2. Board certified in anesthesiology by the American Board of Anesthesiology.
3. DEA registration required.

EXPERIENCE:
1. Minimum 5 years of experience preferred.
2. Strong team building skills.
3. Experience in MS Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Power Point.
4. Knowledge of CARTI policies and procedures, and benefit packages, or the ability and willingness to learn.
5. High attention to detail and accuracy and ability to manage multiple tasks.
6. Strong organizational skills.
7. Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.

SPECIFIC JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Administers general or regional anesthesia through spinal, intravenous, inhalational, or local methods.

2. Following the procedure, anesthesiologist continues to monitor and manager patient’s condition and may be involved in management of pain.

3. Determines when patients are stabilized enough to be moved after a procedure.

4. Participates in recruitment efforts of anesthesia providers, including interviewing, establishing competencies, and onboarding activities.

5. Actively manages the team of anesthesia providers, including supervision and proctoring of Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists as appropriate.

6. Participates in the annual review/evaluation of anesthesia providers to ensure the quality of anesthesia services.

7. Clinically involved physician who models the practice of evidence-based medicine and superior patient experience skills.

8. Be physically available to direct, coordinate, and monitor the daily activities of the Anesthesia Department.

9. Fosters a collaborative model of practice to promote the growth and success of the group.


10. Works with the Director of Anesthesia Services, AVP, the Chief Clinical Officer, and CARTI team members in the development and enhancement of practice guidelines.

11. Makes recommendations regarding delineated clinical privileges of Medical Staff applicants.

12. Ensures that the anesthesia services provided are consistent with patient needs and with current knowledge concerning anesthesia practice.

13. Recommends types and amounts of physical resources necessary for administering anesthesia and for providing any necessary resuscitative measures.

14. Provides guidelines for anesthesia safety.

15. Provides in-service education for non-anesthesia staff as appropriate, including, but not limited to:

o Care and cleaning of anesthesia equipment;
o Code blue management and mock drills;
o Conscious sedation administration by non-anesthesia care providers; and
o Malignant Hyperthermia training and mock drills.

16. Interacts with surgical, medical, and clinical staff in resolution of any conflicts regarding patient care or safety.

17. Participates in CARTI’s QA/PI plan, which monitors and evaluates the quality of anesthesia care provided and uses benchmarking to help to proactively identify areas where performance improvements or process improvements are needed to improve the quality of care delivered.

18. Participates in facility emergency medical management protocols, drills, in-service, and training.
