Job Description

Summary: The Analytical/Micro Lab Technician is responsible for conducting a variety of tests per client specifications and Schwan Cosmetics standards, making decisions to approve or reject bulk production, incoming raw materials, work-in-process, or finished goods based on test results, demonstrating safe work practices, and following all Schwan Cosmetics, USA policies and procedures, and training other Analytical/Micro Lab Technicians. ENTRY LEVEL

Reports To: QA Lab Supervisor

  • Perform other duties as required.
  • Conduct analysis of product samples, compile data and interpret the results. Assist with Product Development testing and other special request analysis.
  • Conduct equipment calibration as required.
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities including LEAN and Kaizens, apply root cause analysis and take appropriate corrective action.
  • Perform routine - intermediate tests to determine if product(s) meet standards. Products could include bulk production, incoming raw materials, work-in-process, or finished goods. Identify imperfections in product using mechanical, sensory or electronic equipment or chemical analysis.


Minimum Qualifications:

Education: High School Diploma or GED required or equivalent experience. Must be able to demonstrate basic reading skills, understanding of common chemistry principles and basic math, including adding, subtracting, dividing and multiplication, use of percentages and conversion from US to metric measurements. Must be able to speak, read/comprehend, and write in English.

Experience: Minimum of 1-2 years manufacturing/quality control experience or equivalent education/experience. Must be able to demonstrate proficient use of common lab equipment and tools including micrometers, calipers, hot plates, pH meter, viscometer, melting point apparatus, water titrations, pull force testing, break strength, DSC (Differential Scanning Calorimeter, FTIR, HPLC, etc. Must be able to demonstrate basic computer skills including data entry, keyboarding and use of a mouse.

Other: Must be able to pass a basic color test.
