Agripelago, a forward-thinking cleantech startup, is developing Hemp Biosystems: purpose-built environments that unify regenerative agriculture and biorefineries. Our mission is to create carbon-negative food and fuel from hemp.

Position Overview

We are currently seeking a Head of Agriculture, an innovator with deep knowledge and extensive experience in agricultural systems engineering. In this vital role, you will spearhead the engineering, development, deployment, and management of our agricultural systems. Leveraging your expertise in agricultural infrastructure and precision agriculture, you will be instrumental in optimizing the efficiency and sustainability of our farming operations.

Responsibilities

  • Directing internal R&D projects to improve crop yield, sustainability, and efficiency using agricultural engineering
  • Supervising the use, maintenance, and development of agricultural machinery, irrigation systems, and other agricultural infrastructure.
  • Overseeing the development and refinement of large-scale farming systems, ensuring alignment with principles of regenerative agriculture.
  • Leading the design, development, deployment, and management of agroecosystems
  • Managing agroecosystem teams, fostering a culture of innovation, sustainability, and continuous learning.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of precision agriculture tools, including drones, sensors, and software.
  • A graduate degree in Agricultural Engineering, Biosystems Engineering, or a related field. Extensive demonstrable work experience may be considered as a substitute.
  • Proven experience in agricultural systems engineering, with a focus on the design, development, deployment, and management of large-scale farming systems.
  • Experience with regenerative agriculture practices.
  • In-depth knowledge of agricultural machinery, equipment, and vehicles, such as tractors and harvesters, and a comprehensive understanding of irrigation systems and other agricultural infrastructure.
  • Prior experience with hemp is helpful, but not required.
