After School Care Worker

Summary
An After School Care Worker provides support and work to assist lead mentors in a variety of functions, including observing, supervising, guiding and directing children. Additionally, assisting with organizational duties, and optimizing a safe and nurturing learning and play environment.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provides an professional environment where everyone can have a positive experience throughout the day.
  • Familiar with all health and emergency policies of the program and ready to implement them when necessary.
  • Performs all other job-related duties as assigned.
  • Maintain appropriate communication and treats all children, families, and staff members with dignity and respect, and allow for individual differences.
  • Helps to ensure the safety and welfare of the children and protects each from physical or emotional harm. This includes performing all tasks with an appropriate level of confidentiality.
  • Helps with general housekeeping tasks.
  • Supervises and interacts with children at all times; mealtimes, rest periods, restroom times, play times, and activity times.
Qualifications
  • High School student, graduate with diploma or GED (minimum).
  • Maintains and demonstrates a mature Christian lifestyle consistent with the teachings of the Church.
  • Ability to provide a supportive and caring environment for children.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures.

Therefore, each employee must at all times be emotionally stable and able to function effectively with children, adolescents and adults who may have mental or behavioral health problems. The staff must be able to demonstrate appropriate behavior, expression of emotions, as well as role modeling.

Physical Requirements - Essential Job Functions
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to:
  • Working in both an indoor environmentally controlled setting as well as working outdoors in the heat of the day for extended periods of time;
  • Hearing and speaking;
  • Sighted with peripheral, near, and far vision;
  • Sitting, standing, bending, kneeling, squatting, crawling, stooping, walking, and the ability to lift and carry up to 35 pounds and in case of emergency a 40-pound child;
  • Excellent English communication skills.
