Picture yourself here: When you join PPGNY as an Advanced Practice Clinician under medical supervision you will provide medical and pelvic examinations for the purpose of assessing general health and eligibility for contraception; to ascertain pregnancy; and to ascertain the need for and provide therapeutic assistance for a determined range of infections and disorders. Provides educational and training services to staff and clients.

What the Advanced Practice Clinician for ICA Services does:


ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Administrative (10%):
  • Accepts individual and joint responsibility for and participates in overall health care center efforts to achieve all goals set to improve customer relations, increase customer satisfaction and promote repeat customer visits.
  • Participates in department and interdisciplinary committees which affect policies related to the role of the Advance Practice Clinician and delivery of health care to the customer.
  • As required by law, participates in Collaborative Agreement with Medical Director or another designated Physician.
  • Works effectively with volunteers, trainees and temp agency personnel.
  • Participates in agency quality risk management program. Under the direction of the regional VP and the physician leadership, implements overall quality assurance activities at the health centers.
  • Travel: While performing the duties of this job, the employee may have to travel to other work locations at various times. Own transportation is required, with a valid driver’s license, inspection, registration and adequate insurance.
  • Performs other educational and experience related duties as required.
  • Prepares medical incident / occurrence reports as needed.
  • Monitors and ensures compliance with OSHA, CLIA and State procedures, policies and regulations.
  • Responds with other staff to community needs by participating in educational efforts.
  • Accepts individual and joint responsibility for and participates in health care center efforts to comply with all organizational and quality guidelines and all pertinent government regulations.
  • Understands and commits to customer satisfaction approach to health care delivery.
  • Complete all responsibilities according to established protocols, policies and standard practices in the areas of ADA and regulatory compliance programs such as HIPAA.
  • Familiar with health center emergency procedures and responds appropriately.
  • Adhere to affiliate goals, policies and standards of conduct in terms of professionalism. Assist center staff in achieving time efficient family planning visits as well as answering phones professionally.

Direct Clinical Care: (80%)
  • Collaborates with physicians and other members of the health care team and makes referrals to medical and community resources as indicated.
  • Monitors medical aspects of all medical services offered at the health center, acting as a resource to center staff and patients regarding medical concerns.
  • Responsible for assessing, planning and administering health care which is individualized to the patient and consistent with the policies and protocols of PPFA and PPGNY.
  • Provides postpartum care in selected settings within an interdisciplinary team framework with appropriate pre-service and in-service education.
  • Provides medications and contraceptive devices as needed.
  • Create & maintain medical documentation in an EHR system in compliance with EHR policies and procedures.
  • Provides education and appropriate management for women and men in need of reproductive related services, including fertility control, infertility, and sexually transmitted infections.
  • Performs, orders and interprets appropriate laboratory tests.
  • Seeks consultations as necessary from Medical Director or designee.
  • Secures a complete health history and performs physical examinations with special emphasis on the reproductive health care, and other types of more specialized reproductive care including abortion care, and transgender hormone therapy.
  • Assesses and manages gynecological conditions and provides treatment consistent with PPGNY protocols, policies, and procedures.
  • Ensures appropriate medical follow-up on all patient testing and/or treatment, including direct patient contacts and laboratory test review.

Training: (10%)

  • At the discretion and direction of the Clinical Director, AVP of clinical implementation and or Medical Director, assists in training and orientation for newly hired APC’s and new skill development.
  • At the discretion and direction of the health center management, assists in training and orientation for newly hired clinical support staff.
  • Attends agency sponsored staff meetings, medical in-services and trainings.

We’re seeking candidates who have:


Minimum Education
  • Graduation from a formal and accredited Nurse Midwifery program plus New York State Licensure.
  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree
  • Graduation from a formal and accredited Nurse Practitioner Program such as Ob/Gyn Women’s Health Care or Family Planning Nurse Practitioner Program plus New York State Licensure.
  • Graduation from a formal and accredited Physician Assistant program plus New York State Licensure.

Minimum work experience
  • Prefer minimum of 1-year clinical experience
  • New graduates welcomed

Licensures/Certifications
  • State license as a Physician Assistant, Midwife or Nurse Practitioner and be certified by a national credentialing body.

  • Master’s degree in nursing or related health field preferred
