Adult Education must serve residents in easily-accessed locations throughout the region. Based on enrollment numbers and student skill-level, the number of GED and ESL instructors needed to adequately address student need in each locality varies and may change each semester. We also must be responsive to employers who need training for employees, be ready to provide remedial instruction to Workforce credential students, and be prepared to serve refugee populations. We are filling positions to cover geographic locations and to have enough staff to accommodate changing needs. One teacher may be able to teach several classes in different areas. Some teachers are able to teach both GED and ESL classes. Teachers may be hired to teach one class, but be available to provide additional instruction in a class needed for an employer or to serve refugees with language support.
Part-time instructors needed for in-person evening GED and ESL classes in various locations in the the counites of Frederick, Warren and Shenandoah. Classes meet twice a week. One class would total 8-10 hours per week. Instructors may not work more than 29 hours per week.

ESL classes available in Woodstock for morning classes and evening positions in Woodstock, and Front Royal. Classes meet twice a week for two hours.
Civics: Online evening class to prepare individuals for citizenship.
GED: Morning and evening position in Frederick County and an evening position in Page County.

Compensation
The hourly rate for this position is $33.06. The position is part time and as such cannot exceed 29 hours per week and is not eligible for health or leave benefits. However, the position may offer educational benefits through our professional development and educational assistance policies.

Telework
According to DHRM policy 1.61 Teleworking, effective July 5, 2022, Virginia state employees will return to the workplace. Consistent with pre-pandemic policies, telework may be an option for certain eligible positions. Eligible positions are determined by the type of work and job requirements of the position, as defined by heads of agencies.

Minimum Qualifications:
Proven academic excellence, evidenced by a bachelor’s degree as required by the VDOE grant.

Must possess the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Must possess excellent organizational, planning, and human relations skills.
Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with adult learners, specialists, program managers, school administration, and business/community partner agencies.
Adult Education instructors must possess knowledge of content, curriculum, methods, materials, and equipment appropriate for instructing adult learners in obtaining a GED®, Career Readiness Certificate, and Digital Literacy credentials.
Must demonstrate a commitment and ability to serve a diverse community, including low-income families and English language learners.
Self-motivated and able to work at a standalone satellite site.
Ability to manage and maintain a professional classroom, providing instruction to adult participants whose basic skills are below the twelfth grade level.
Possess working skills in the use of technology to deliver Distance Education instruction, communicate via email and teach basic computer skills to the adult learner.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience teaching adult students is preferred.
