Job Description
Job Responsibilities


Under general supervision, provides technical and specialized professional and administrative duties for the the Office of State Fire Marshal (OSFM), including the Community Risk Reduction (CRR) team. Performs a variety of other administrative, clerical, procurement, and/or fiscal duties to support OSFM and the data, education, and outreach services of CRR..


  • Performs other duties as assigned. May function as essential staff during times of emergency and SEOC activations.
  • Coordinates the scheduling of internal and external risk reduction activities on a shared team calendar. Provides administrative support to alarm operations in the areas of intake, distribution, installation, and accountability. Prepares, edits, and as needed, graphically improves, educational materials, agendas, and advertisements to support social media and Fire Portal postings for statewide events. As needed, coordinates with the SC Fire Academy's Marketing Coordinator.
  • Serves as the main telephone operator for State Fire and receptionist for the OSFM. Responds to customer service inquiries related to the Fire Portal, OSFM programs, and CRR. Regularly coordinates with internal staff, external partners, and the public to support administrative functions of OSFM and CRR. Fosters local, state and national mutually-beneficial relationships through excellent follow-through and communication. Processes and maintains records related to confidential criminal background checks related to the Firefighter Registration/Fire Portal. Maintains records for OSFM and as requested, handles information of a sensitive nature for fire incidents.
  • Receives, opens, and date stamps all incoming mail for OSFM. Processes mail requests for risk reduction materials and support.
  • Complies needed statistics and information from internal and external stakeholders to prepare monthly and/or annual reports. Drafts press releases and social media posts for management approval. Prepares information for updates to relevant websites.
  • Obtains quotes for ordering supplies to support OSFM and CRR. Creates internal requisitions. Processes print requests, ensuring updated risk reduction materials are available to support State Fire staff. Assists with the maintenance and compliance of the annual budget, grants, or other funding sources.


Minimum And Additional Requirements


State Minimum Requirements: a high school diploma and work experience that is directly related to the area of employment. A bachelor's degree may be substituted for the related work experience.


Preferred Qualifications


Preferred Requirements: a high school diploma and four (4) years of administrative experience along with familiarity with the fire service and/or community risk reduction practices.
