Job Description
General Description Of Position


Ivy Tech Community College is a community based technical college which places primary emphasis on excellence in the classroom instruction. Faculty members are expected to demonstrate and maintain competence in each of the following areas throughout their employment at the college.


Major Responsibilities:


  • Mastery of Subject Matter
  • Display an ability to interpret and evaluate theories in the field or discipline.
  • Connect subject matter with related fields.
  • Stay current in subject matter through professional development.
  • Demonstrate a thorough and accurate knowledge of the field or discipline.
  • Employ appropriate teaching and learning strategies.
  • Employ available instructional technology when appropriate.
  • Contribute to the selection and development of instructional materials.
  • Modify, where appropriate, instructional methods and strategies to meet diverse student’s needs.
  • Plan and organize instruction in ways which maximize student learning.
  • Encourage the development of communication skills and higher order thinking skills through appropriate assignments.
  • Teaching Performance
  • Communicate subject matter to students.
  • Support classroom efforts to promote student success.
  • Evaluate and return student work to promote maximum learning.
  • Develop evaluation methods which fairly measure student progress toward objectives.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress.
  • Evaluation of Student Learning
  • Establish and adhere to learning objectives.
  • Submit final grade rosters, grade books and attendance rosters to division administrators each semester according to established deadlines.
  • Meet scheduled classes in accordance with college policy.
  • Prepare, distribute and submit syllabi approved course outlines for all assigned sections in
  • Support of College Policies and Procedures


accordance with program and divisional policies.


  • Exercise stewardship of College facilities and materials.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information.
  • Contribute, when appropriate, to program and division curriculum development processes.
  • Respond, in a timely fashion, to information requests from College, division and program administrators.
  • Participation in College, Division and Program Activities


Attend program, divisional and College meetings and events as feasible.


  • Maintain familiarity with College goals, mission and long-range plans.
  • Contribution to the Growth and Enhancement of College Mission and Programs
  • Contribute to planning and development processes where appropriate.


Minimum Qualifications: E ducation Program Standard :


A qualified faculty member in education meets both of the following criteria:


  • Possesses an earned master’s or higher degree from a regionally accredited institution in education or a related field appropriate to the program, and
  • Three years of elementary or secondary teaching experience.
  • Has one of the following:
  • Current or expired professional state teaching license/certification or


EDUC 224 Course Standard


A qualified faculty member teaching EDUC 224 meets the course standard through one of four routes:


  • Meets the Education program standard, or
  • Possesses an earned Master’s or higher degree from a regionally accredited institution in Education with 18 graduate or undergraduate hours in science, or
  • Professional certification in education, or
  • Minimum of three years of K-12 teaching experience
  • Possesses an earned Master’s or higher degree from a regionally accredited institution in any natural or physical science, with one of the following:
  • Possesses an earned Master's or higher degree from a regionally accredited institution in Science Education, or
