Under the supervision of the division director, associate dean, and/or Dean, Instructional Affairs, the Instructor teaches students according to established policies and procedures to provide competent and effective classroom and laboratory instruction at varied times and places based on student demand.
SALARY: Adjunct instructors in the academic fields are paid $650.00 per credit hour taught, not to exceed 19 hours per week. Compensation for substitute instructors may vary depending on duration of the instructional assignment and the instructional division within the College. Appropriate compensation arrangements for substitute instructors will be determined by the College.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The following list was developed through a job analysis; however, it is not exhaustive and other duties may be required and assigned. ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: Instruction. Provide competent classroom and laboratory instruction in the area of credentialed expertise.

- Evaluates and utilize classroom statistical data, course evaluations, and actual classroom success data.
- Displays an ability to interpret and evaluate the theories of their field or discipline.
- Connects their subject matter with related fields.
- Develops, updates, and posts course syllabi in a timely manner.
- Demonstrates a thorough and accurate knowledge of their field or discipline.
- Modifies, where appropriate, instructional methods and strategies to meet diverse student needs.

- Stays current in their subject matter through professional development, involvement in professional organizations, and attending professional meetings, conferences, or workshops.
- Uses instructional time wisely to meet course objectives.
- Plans and organize instruction in ways that maximize documented student learning.
- Encourages the development of communication skills and higher order thinking skills through appropriate assignments.
- Learn and use technology to enhance teaching and the educational experience when appropriate.
- Incorporates core competencies into program or discipline content.

- Teaches a course load appropriate to their field or discipline.
- Contributes to the selection and development of instructional materials in accordance with course objectives.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: Student Learning. Evaluate the progress of students in all classes according to institutional, divisional, departmental, and individual criteria.
- Maintain action plans based on data to support constant and never-ending improvement in the instructional process.
- Maintains accurate records of student progress and submits final grade rosters each semester according to established deadlines.
- Returns student assignments and tests in a timely manner.
- Develops and explains methods that fairly measure student progress toward student learning outcomes.
- Evaluates student performance fairly and consistently and return student work promptly to promote maximum learning.
- Demonstrates sensitivity to student needs and circumstances.
- Establishes meaningful learning student learning outcomes for courses/programs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: Support of College Policies and Procedures. Performs other department activities to ensure efficient, high quality services are provided to WCC.
- Posts and maintains regular office hours to ensure accessibility to colleagues and to students for advisement and consultation.
- Serves as faculty advisor within the current College advisement system.
- Exercises stewardship of College facilities and materials.
- Substitutes for other instructors within field or discipline in case of an absence.
- Teaches classes as assigned in a multi-campus environment as needed.
- Maintains confidentiality of student information.
- Prepares, distributes, and submits syllabi and approved course outlines for all assigned sections in accordance with program and divisional policies.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: Participation in College, Division, and Program Activities. Performs other department activities to ensure efficient, high quality services are provided to WCC.
- Provides attendance data as required.
- Responds in a timely fashion to information requests from college, division, and program administrators.
- Contributes to program and division curriculum development processes.
- Serves on college, divisional, and program committees as assigned.
- Participates in meeting and events required by the college, division, and program administrators.
- Supports both part-time and full-time colleagues.
- Participates in graduation ceremonies.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: Contribution to Growth and Enhancement of College Mission and Programs. Promote positive and productive relationships with service area businesses, industries, and agencies.
- Participates in professional activities that contribute to the educational goals of the College and its constituents.
- Contributes to planning and development processes through appropriate mechanisms and channels.
- Performs professional responsibilities in accordance with pertinent goals, missions, and plans of the College, division, and program.
- Maintains familiarity with College goals, mission and long-range plans.
- Participates in the marketing, recruitment and retention of students, faculty and staff.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: Professional Development. Continue as competent instructor in the chosen specialty by seeking new knowledge, improving teaching skills, and updating professional competencies.
- Updates knowledge and skills in subject matter field and instructional abilities.
- Sets professional goals for each rating period.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Remains current in teaching discipline by one or more of the following methods: a. attending workshops, continuing education programs, practicums, and academic courses; b. engaging in individual self-study; c. actively participating in professional organizations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: College Expectations. Dependability, attendance, punctuality, and a commitment to do the job right are essential at all times.

- Performs a productive full day's work.
- Reports to work on time, at appropriate workstation or department during all departmental/position scheduled work days and during all departmental/position scheduled work hours.
- Understands that failure to report for work and/or reporting late without prior approval are unacceptable practices and will result in disciplinary action.
- Ensures that service to students and the general public is top priority.
- Adheres to all College and System policies and procedures.
- Experience incorporating multi-media instructional techniques into curricula, including instructional technology for web-based teaching and course management utilizing the Blackboard platform is preferred.
- Master's degree with major in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, or related fields containing coursework in elementary education OR Master's degree plus 18 graduate semester hours in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, or Special Education with at least a P-3 endorsement from an accredited institution is required.
- Three years of full-time work experience as a teacher / instructor in the field is required.
- Experience inspiring and facilitating learning with diverse student populations is preferred.
- Postsecondary teaching experience, including the use of online learning management systems is preferred.
Available positions are contingent upon enrollment and the instructional needs of the College.

Transcripts must also confirm eighteen (18) graduate semester hours in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, or Special Education with at least a P-3. Transcripts may be unofficial for the application process but they must identify the applicant, institution, degree earned and the date the degree was conferred. (A copy of the diploma will not suffice). NOTE: If employed, official transcripts will be required at that time.
