Summary:
Under general supervision, and within State of Alaska licensed practical nurse (LPN) scope of practice, provides practical nursing services to accomplish the individual patient plan of care, and support the operations of the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium. Dependent on the responsibilities of the assigned clinic or department, the incumbent may serve patients at ANMC, employees, or other ANTHC clients.

Responsibilities:

Administers general nursing care to patients in a hospital setting. Works collaboratively with the healthcare team to provide nursing care to patients. Performs nursing procedures and prescribed medical treatments.

Makes decisions and takes actions on behalf of patients are determined in an ethical manner, and care is delivered in a nonjudgmental and nondiscriminatory manner that is sensitive to patient diversity preserving patient autonomy, dignity, and rights.

Delivers timely and effective nursing care according to established standards including physical, social and emotional care.

Observes and assesses patients' conditions and behavior; assures patient safety and stability; reports significant changes to RN or physician; documents nursing care in the electronic health record.

Reviews physician’s orders, develops and executes patient care plan, and reports progress and unusual occurrences. Records and reports all information within scope of clinical practice.

Maintains records, inventory and physical security of drugs and medical supplies; orders and requests supplies as needed. Performs simple laboratory work, and prepares specimens for laboratory; reviews laboratory tests results; notifies patients of test results, and physicians of critical lab values.

Performs other duties as assigned.

· Knowledge of LPN scope of practice within the State of Alaska.

· Knowledge of nursing science, principles, techniques, and procedures for the care of patients.

· Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology and concepts of disease.

· Knowledge of Alaskan culture.

· Knowledge of the hospital environment and how the services and functions interact.

· Skill in providing effective nursing care.

· Skilled in excellent customer service.

· Skill in assessing and prioritizing multiple requests by patients, families, and team members.

· Skilled in providing first aid and cardio pulmonary resuscitation.

· Skill in critical thinking to provide effective and compassionate nursing care, assessing patient situations and taking effective courses of action.

· Skill in operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of software applications.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION

Non-supervisory - None, although some departments may require LPN experience based on operational needs.

MINIMUM CERTIFICATION QUALIFICATION

· Current Practical Nurse (LPN) license in the State of Alaska.

· Current Basic Life Support (BLS) card required.
