Job Summary
The Department of Surgery at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health is seeking an exceptional general surgeon to join the faculty of a dynamic and growing Division of Acute Care and Regional General Surgery. Our Division provides emergency general surgery, trauma and burn services at UW Health, and elective general surgery services to the Madison area UW affiliated hospitals.
The Department of Surgery consists of more than 160 faculty across eleven specialty divisions, performing more than 25,000 operations annually. The Department also trains more than 70 residents and fellows and is consistently ranked amongst the top surgery programs with extramural research funding.

Responsibilities
The Acute Care & Elective General Surgeon will be based primarily at Unity Point Meriter hospital. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to join a well-established group of general surgeons and expand the practice. Additional responsibility is to cover the Emergency General Surgery service at Meriter Hospital and East Madison Hospital on an average of 1 in 4-week basis.
The primary site of this position will be at Unity Point Meriter Hospital. UP-Meriter hospital runs 11 operating rooms daily including specialty services in Vascular, orthopedic surgery, ophthalmology, GYN, plastic surgery and other subspecialties. As a UW affiliate, the emergency general surgery service at UP-Meriter is supported by 4-6 house staff (1-2PG1, 1PGY2, 1 PGY 4, 1 PG5, and occasionally a PGY 3). Four Advance practice Providers provide support as surgical assistants, on rounds and in clinic. The Meriter EGS and East Madison Hospital EGS services cares for all unplanned surgical admissions and provides inpatient consultations as needed.
The successful candidate will demonstrate qualifications and commitment delivering high-quality patient care. In addition, competitive candidates will be motivated for clinical teaching of medical students, residents, and fellows.

Qualifications
Candidate is required to have or be eligible for a Wisconsin and Illinois medical license. Board certification or Board Eligible in Surgery through the American Board of Surgery or American Osteopathic Board of Surgery or equivalent is required. Must be eligible for enrollment as a billing provider and for all necessary hospital privileges.
Candidates must possess clinical and academic credentials sufficient for appointment at the Clinical Associate Professor or Clinical Assistant Professor rank that have been previously established by UW School of Medicine and Public Health Guidelines.
Fellowship training in burn, trauma, emergency general surgery, or surgical critical care is not required.
