Basic Purpose


Remote work location, residing in the Northeast with geographical territory from New England to New Jersey*


The Account Manager position is responsible for delivering profitable growth in a defined territory by providing solutions to current and prospective customers. The role is accountable for achieving volume, revenue, and margin growth targets by growing Nexeo’s share with existing and new customers through the sale of product and service offerings.


This role will report to the Regional Sales Director – Northeast Region and is expected to provide a mix of strategic and tactical solutions in a business-to-business selling environment. In the position, the focus will be on acquiring, penetrating, managing, and retaining customers by building strong customer relationships. As an Account Manager, the person will be performance-driven with a dedication to achieving team goals critical to the success of the overall business.


Description of Primary Responsibilities

  • Market Knowledge: Keeps up-to-date and informed on the market, industry, and regulatory issues.
  • Technical Knowledge: Identifies technical needs of customers. Ability to communicate and build customer technical relationships to drive growth.
  • Account Planning & Customer Knowledge: Understands customer objectives, needs, and profitability drivers.
  • Negotiations & Solution Agreement: Has sound judgment and problems solving skills to create win-win solutions.
  • Sales Administration: Has command of MS Office and CRM.
  • Implementation Management: Reacts to additional customer demands and needs.
  • Coordination & Leadership: Develops relationships within Nexeo and within the customer organization.
  • Ownership & Performance Focus: Takes responsibility for and ownership of territory.
  • Territory Planning: Understands territory environment, current accounts, prospects, competitors, and suppliers.
  • Pipeline and Quotation Management: Manages pipeline proactively, recognizing customers' stage in the decision cycle.
  • Communication: Presents to customers with awareness of customer context.
  • Value Proposition: Understands and sells entire value offering from Nexeo.

Minimum Requirements (Education, Experience & Skills)

  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Use logic and reasoning to identify alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
  • Highly adept at prospecting and customer acquisition.
  • Proven track record of delivering consistent and long-term growth.
  • Establish and maintain interpersonal relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Willingness to travel 50%.
  • 3-5 years of plastics distribution sales or related industry experience is preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree; in engineering or chemistry, business, or similar field preferred.
  • Experience working in a team-oriented collaborative environment.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word Suite, SAP, CRM/ERP systems, and Salesforce preferred.
  • Ability to build relationships and resolve customer complaints or concerns.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and written.
