Climbing experience and certification from a recognized arboricultural or tree care organization.

Experience with proper pruning practices including large shade trees and ornamentals

Requirement a valid driver’s license and possess a class C driver’s license

Tree pruning based on ANSI A300 Standards

Use of heavy equipment such as aerial lift, chippers, chainsaw, as well as rope and saddle.

Uses wedges, sledges, and chain saws in felling trees or trimmed trunks and in cutting and splitting logs into manageable pieces.

Transmission Climber / Trimmer NO Experience Necessary!

Minimum of 5 years climbing experience and/or 5 years documented foreman experience

Experience with technical rigging for use in trimming and large removals

Experience operating bucket or claw trucks preferred

Repairing, sharpening, and maintaining equipment and tools

Performing basic felling and rigging, along with aerial rigging over obstacles

Leading a 2-man pruning crew while completing pruning & removal projects

Minimum of one-year rope and saddle climbing experience including knowledge of various knots used in roping and technical rigging

Must have basic knowledge of proper tree pruning and removal techniques

Experience operating bucket or claw trucks preferred

Cabling and bracing skills preferred

Repairing, sharpening, and maintaining equipment and tools

Performing basic felling and rigging, along with aerial rigging over obstacles

Experience with proper pruning practices, including large shade trees and ornamentals

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Position reports to Tree Foreman and /or Tree Operations Supervisor.

Must obtain a Connecticut pesticide applicator’s license within six months of appointment.

Commercial Driver’s License required prior to participating in the Performance Examination.

Operates stump-grinding equipment to remove tree stumps.

May be required to assist in snow plowing and highway maintenance during inclement weather.

One year of tree climbing experience. Department may conduct practical assessment to confirm skill level.
