Key experience, skills and qualifications

The Instrument Man will demonstrate knowledge and have experience in the following:

Working knowledge of surveying equipment

Experience with Topcon Total Stations, TDS software a plus

Vision abilities including close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Minimum one-year of experience in land surveying field

Knowledgeable in the principles and performance of basic types of surveys, survey computations, and field operations

Ability to work out of town, in remote locations, for extended periods of time

The geomatics instrument operator uses a variety of land survey instruments to support a crew in their daily operations

Assists in the completion of field surveys under the supervision of a Crew Chief

Utilize survey controllers and software to collect geospatial data and perform survey computations

Experience in project management, proposal writing, and cost estimating

Minimum of 5 years of Land Surveying experience

Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a team environment

Licensed SIT or PLS in the State of Illinois

0 – 2 years of experience preferred

Assist the crew chief with all aspects of the daily crew workload

Work independently as a one-person crew as required

Daily uploading and downloading of data collectors

Operate survey total stations, data collectors, and levels

Daily care and charging of instrumentation equipment

3 years' previous experience in a similar land surveying role

Effective communication oral and written communication skills with all level of employees in an organization

Load and unload surveying supplies and surveying equipment in the Survey vehicles daily

Operate surveying instruments such as data collectors, robotic Total Stations, and GPS-RTK Receivers

Record survey measurements and descriptive data using electronic distance measuring equipment

Conduct construction staking for layout of streets, drains, lots, and utilities using surveying equipment
