Water Treatment Plant Operator Or Trainee

The Town of Woodstock invites applications for a water plant operator or trainee within the Department of Public Works.

The Town of Woodstock is seeking an energetic and hard-working individual to join the Public Works Department as a water treatment plant operator or trainee. This position performs intermediate technical work in the operation of water plant equipment and facilities, completing inspections and repairs, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the water plant’s Chief Operator.

The Town is seeking a candidate who has or has the potential to acquire: thorough knowledge of the principles, practices, equipment and methods used in water operations; thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards connected with water plant and related activities and of necessary safety precautions; thorough knowledge of chemistry as applied to water treatment; ability to adjust water pumps, chemical feed machines and other water plant equipment; ability to check the operation of equipment and to detect defects in operation; ability to take accurate readings, to keep records and to make arithmetical computations; skill in the use and care of hand tools; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public, engineers, governmental agency representatives and the general public.

A high school diploma or GED is required, and moderate experience in water plant operations or an equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred; however, a trainee will be considered. A valid Virginia driver’s license and a good driving record are required. The selected candidate will be required to obtain a Class II Water Plant Operator license within two years of employment.

The position is at-will, full-time, with some night, weekend, and holiday commitments. The pay range is $15.40 – 27.64 per hour and is classified as an FLSA non-exempt position. Anticipated hiring range is $15.40 – $22.73 per hour. The Town offers an excellent benefits package in addition to ongoing training.
