MajorDuties
As a Translator (English/Spanish) you will: Ensure translations are accurate and represents the highest quality in terms of maintaining intent and/or meaning and comply with Spanish language norms and rules. Manage linguistic, glossary, and technical research efforts for translation services of health communication products and projects. Manage the projects and coordination of translation activities and assignments (English to Spanish) to provide the organization with expedited translation services. Serve as a liaison or management point of contact for staff members requiring translation services.

Education completed in colleges or universities outside the United States may be used to meet the education requirements. You must provide acceptable documentation that the foreign education is comparable to that received in an accredited educational institution in the United States. Basic requirement: Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study - the appropriate foreign language from an English-speaking college or university, English from a college or university in the other country, or translating or interpreting where English and the foreign language were prerequisites. Language Specialist Series 1040 (opm.gov) OR Experience in translating, interpreting, or other work requiring the use of English and the other language; or a combination of work (that required English and the other language) AND training at the Defense Language Institute, Foreign Service Institute, or comparable training. AND Selective Placement Factor (SPF): Selective placement factors are special qualification requirements in addition to the minimum requirements, that are essential to successfully perform the duties of this job. If the SPF is not documented in your resume and occupational questionnaire, you will be screened-out and will not receive further consideration under this announcement. Applicants must be proficient in translating English into Spanish (writing, speaking, and reading). Testing Provision: The interview will be conducted in Spanish and English, and you will be required to translate biomedical science and health documents. If you are unable to demonstrate proficiency, you will not be qualified for this position. AND Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level of in the Federal service as defined in the next paragraph. Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position to include experience with producing accurate translations with a wide range of both technical and non-technical vocabulary using correct grammar, syntax, and spelling; AND utilizing a translation software tool (e.g. Trados Studio) that includes the use of translation memories such as Termbases and Project Management. Documenting Experience: In accordance with Office of Personnel Management policy, federal employees are assumed to have gained experience by performing duties and responsibilities appropriate for their official series and grade level as described in their position description. Experience that would not normally be part of the employee's position is creditable, however, when documented by satisfactory evidence, such as a signed memorandum from the employee's supervisor or an SF-50 or SF-52 documenting an official detail or other official assignment. The documentation must indicate whether the duties were performed full time or, if part time, the percentage of times the other duties were performed.
