System Administrator II

Facilities Management AVC - Pennsylvania-Pittsburgh - (23003268)
Installs, configures, and maintains servers within a large unit or department or more than one small unit or department. Performs complex server and infrastructure tasks and maintenance. Provides end user support for complex issues. Configures and maintains operating system enhancements and performs software installations and upgrades.
Oversees the daily management and development of Facilities Management and Planning, Design & Construction’s computing systems including; 1) Maintaining, upgrading and troubleshooting the University’s Job Order Cost System multi-user database, 2) Over 125 user LAN and client/server database operating systems and hardware, 3) Setup and maintain employees laptop and desktop hardware, 4) install, develop and maintain other software systems as required to support the department, 5) technical consultation to troubleshoot IT issues, and 6) Be the primary interface to the University’s Central IT Department for other support of the Divisions systems. Responsible for maintaining, upgrading, troubleshooting, and setup of the University’s Job Order Cost System Multi-User Database which support Facilities Management’s and Planning, Design and Construction’s operating and capital project management. This system is critical to data and reporting needs concerning major budgetary, fiscal, staffing and planning decisions. This involves all aspects of the system design including database management, backup, development of reports and forms, development of new input screens, additions and deletions of new system users, upgrade of system using new technology, documentation of the system and system interface with other central University systems such as purchasing, payroll, accounts payable, etc. Extensive knowledge of MS Access and SQL Server, database system development in general. Knowledge of systems development tools and database optimization techniques. Prior knowledge of Windows programming tools (VBA). Extensive programming, analytical and problem solving/trouble shooting skills. Ability to carry a project from planning to completion within schedule amid a variety of other tasks and responsibilities. Ability to understand other software systems for systems interface. Manage, update, and maintain FM’s/PD &C’s extensive LAN system network. The system must be maintained to ensure minimal downtime and data loss risk. The incumbent manages network hardware and software installations and upgrades, troubleshooting and system and database backups at the University’s Network Operations Center. The incumbent is also responsible for all computer and peripheral related purchases for the Division. An inventory of all computer hardware related equipment will also be maintained by the incumbent. Interface with Central IT personnel for management of user software to ensure ease of use and license adherence as well as training and support is also provided by the incumbent. Incumbent must interface with Central IT personnel to manage various aspects of the system including management of the system servers at the NOC, purchase and installation of new software, software licensing and University system security requirements.

Additional details about Required Licensure/Certification Bachelors Degree in Computer/Information Science, plus experience working with a local area network, personal computers, docking station arrangements and related equipment (printers, scanners, etc.). Experience with systems development and software including SQL Servers, Access Databases, and Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Windows and other routinely used software. Microsoft certified.
Work Schedule Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
