Overview:
General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems, a premier provider of ordnance weapons and tactical systems to the U.S. Department of Defense and allied nations, has an opening for a Structural Analysis Engineer 3 to join our Bothell, WA Team. Performs analyses in area of specialty to support contracted programs, independent research and development efforts, and bid and proposal activities. Actively participates in new business and follow-on activities. Position requires expertise in the field, independent work, creativity, and the ability to solve complex engineering problems. Independently applies engineering principles in structural, dynamics, and mechanisms analysis to the solution of engineering problems.
Major Position Responsibilities:
  • Has full technical responsibility in area of expertise on an individual program.
  • Carries out complex assignments often requiring the development of new or improved engineering analysis methods.
  • Specifies instrumentation, test techniques and test procedures required to verify analysis. Procedures evolved result in unique test approaches which minimize overall program cost.
  • Maintains a well-organized, neat and safe work area. Immediately terminates any unsafe activities and advises the EH&S contact of the same.
  • Serves as responsible structural or performance analysis engineer on contracted programs.
  • Assesses the feasibility and soundness of proposed engineering designs, products, or equipment with respect to meeting performance requirements.
  • Makes presentations to customers on contracted programs which summarize analysis and test results and which enhance company technical image. Interfaces directly with customer technical representatives in evolving design approaches and resolving problem areas. May involve travel for technical interface meetings.
  • Continually upgrades knowledge and analysis capability.
  • Anticipates potential problem areas and provides corrective action plan to eliminate or minimize their impact.
  • Writes computer programs to model system behavior.
  • Independently develops structural, thermal, or performance models of components, modules, and subsystems which involve considerable complexity and require application of non-standard approaches in analysis.
  • Demonstrates and promotes teamwork and cooperation with team members at all levels in the organization to solve problems and improve processes.
  • Uses creativity in developing design approaches which satisfy technical requirements while minimizing costs and providing unique approaches which offer significant technical advantage.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Computer proficiency (MS Office applications - Excel, Project, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Position may require extended work hours and/or travel in the accomplishment of work assignments.
  • Excellent communication skills (written & oral) in the English language.
  • Ability to work with other functional areas to define hardware requirements and assist in performing development tests.
  • Makes engineering decisions independently regarding solution methods.
  • Requires the use of advanced techniques and the development of new solution methods.
  • Capable of modifying standard engineering practices in area of specialty to solve complex problems.
  • Requires in-depth knowledge of engineering analysis principles and a working knowledge of other related disciplines.
  • Proficient in the use of office software applications on a personal computer.
  • Ability to perform in a fast-paced independent atmosphere.
  • Ability to work with all levels of personnel in an efficient & effective manner.
  • Independently capable of initiating, planning, and implementing design approaches for contracted efforts and new business activities.
  • Ability to obtain a DOD Secret Security Clearance
  • Sizes structures to withstand pressure, thermal, static, and dynamic loads. Determines design deficiencies, and recommends corrective action.

Education and/or Experience: Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering with emphasis on computer modeling and simulation. At least five (5) years related experience, Master of Science Degree in Engineering and at least three (3) years related experience, or Ph.D. Degree and no experience required.


Pay Range (USD): $83,565.23 - $125,347.84 Additional Compensation: Hired applicant may be eligible to participate in the Company’s Gain Sharing Program. Employees are also able to enroll in the company's 401k plan and are eligible for the Non-Contributory Retirement Contribution.
