Job Description
Overview
The San Antonio FC (“SAFC”) Sporting Director will have oversight of all soccer activities for San Antonio FC, including the professional (USL) team, development academy, recruitment, scouting, performance analysis, performance preparation (sports science and medical) and soccer operations. The individual will operate at both strategic and tactical levels and will collaborate with other the respective coaching staffs daily. In collaboration with San Antonio FC Management leaders, the Sporting Director will act as a community liaison to build relationships at STAR Soccer Complex
An integral piece of this role includes the creation, implementation and evaluation of a modern strategic plan which contains key performance measures, for all soccer activity. The soccer strategy will form the club’s overall business plan with the objective of crafting an infrastructure, which allows the club to be successful in competition, while having a competitive advantage that will outperform its competitors on the field and commercially off the field.
The development of a club sporting ethos which is values driven and culture focused in support of the organization’s strategic values, key initiatives, and traditions, will be a critical part of the role.
Responsibilities
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Define and implement processes pertaining to the Identification, recruitment and signing of players.
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with internal departments and external partners which enhance mutual understanding and respect in order to achieve strategic goals.
  • Provide critical thinking and a support to all members in the sporting department to ensure support, alignment, and compliance.
  • Expertise of USL Collective Bargaining Agreement and strong negotiation abilities.
  • Plan and create the annual SAFC competition calendar including pre-season matches, midseason exhibitions, and overall league schedule dates.
  • Development and management of SAFC a multi-year strategic plan to guide in resolving allocation of resources into the strategic plan and key initiatives.
  • Develop a player transfer plan and platform with the expectation of revenue generation for SAFC.
  • Liaise with necessary internal and external leaders to ensure compliance with all applicable USL/USLPA/USSF/FIFA regulations for team and players, and with SS&E legal and people operations as it pertains to immigration and employment laws
  • Participate in the annual operating budget for sporting operations, including regularly monitoring expense levels for accuracy and appropriateness, and taking prompt and corrective action when required. Identify and research methods to reduce expenses and create operation efficiencies.
Qualifications
  • Specialized certification(s) in related fields (national coaching license, MBA, etc.)
  • Ability to travel on a as needed basis.
  • 20% of job able to be performed remotely/80% of work needed to be performed onsite as needed.
  • Ability to work long, flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, Power Point and other computer skills required.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university or equivalent work experience.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and problem solve.
  • Track record of success working with multiple community stakeholders.
  • 5+ years’ senior leadership experience in professional sports organization environment.
