Job Description
  • Provide effective implementation of therapy objectives
  • Work independently with minimal supervision
  • Effectively interact and communicate with children and adults from different cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds
  • React with flexibility and sensitivity to changing situations and needs
  • Prepares therapy materials such as visual boards, word walls, communication boards, and/or equipment for use in therapy activities
  • Knowledge of language, articulation and acquired disorders as well as associated rehabilitation
  • Operate a computer and IPad using standard software applications
  • Documents student progress toward meeting established objectives and reports the information to therapists
  • Assists the therapists during assessments by assisting with documentation and performing clerical duties
  • Programs and troubleshoots Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) devices
  • Experience with terminology related to communicative disorders
  • Effectively carry out written and oral instructions
  • Observes and reports significant behavioral patterns or other problems to the therapists
  • Assists in maintaining appropriate behavior between activities; prepares various teaching materials such as charts, pictures, word lists, and other related items
  • Provides direct treatment assistance to students at various school sites
  • Organize and prioritize work
  • Able to strategize techniques for student behavior management
  • Comfortable with AAC devices and other assistive technology
  • Prior SLPA experience in educational or clinical settings is preferred
  • Follows and implements documented treatment plans or protocols
  • Communicate effectively in oral and written form
  • Appropriately use a variety of screening tools and protocols to administer and score screenings
  • Maintain cooperative work relationships
  • Associate degree in speech-language pathology, or post-secondary equivalent course work and equivalent training and experience
  • Adapts or modifies instructional materials and/or equipment as determined by student needs and abilities
  • Maintain and troubleshoot assistive equipment
  • Familiarity with speech and language pathology equipment, materials, and procedures
  • Understanding of normal speech, language, and hearing development
  • Assists in maintaining student records, tallying data, preparing charts, records, graphs and reports
