Positions Supervised: None
Work Schedule: 190-day contract; Hours are typically 7:30-4:00 p.m. daily with 30-minute lunch and two 15-minute breaks. The daily schedule may be adjusted as required to meet the needs of the District.

POSITION SUMMARY
Assess and treat persons with speech, language, voice, and fluency disorders under the direction of a licensed, certified Speech-Language Pathologist.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Essential Functions Statement(s)
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Special Education Director.
  • Perform pure-tone hearing screenings (without interpretation).
  • Conduct speech-language screenings (without interpretation) following specified screening protocols developed by the supervising speech-language pathologist.
  • Adhere to all policies of the District.
  • Provide routine maintenance/generalization tasks as prescribed by the supervision speech-language pathologist (the speech-language pathologist shall be solely responsible for performing all tasks associated with the assessment and diagnosis of communication and swallowing disorders, for design of all intervention plans, and for directly implementing such plans through the acquisition stage of intervention).
  • Document student progress toward meeting established objectives as stated int eh treatment plan and report that information to the supervising speech-language pathologist.
  • Report suspected bullying to building principal or designee as required by Arkansas law and district policies.
  • Report to the proper authorities any cases of suspected child endangerment, neglect, or abuse.
  • Assist with information documentation (tallying notes for the speech-language pathologist to use), prepare materials, and assist with other clerical duties as directed by the speech-language pathologist.
  • Perform checks and maintenance of equipment.
  • Assist the speech-language pathologist during assessment of students, except those judged to be difficult to test.
  • Follow documented treatment plans or protocols developed by the supervising speech-language pathologist.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

Education: Bachelor's Degree (four year college or technical school) Required, Field of Study: Speech Language Pathology (preferred) or completion of a speech-language pathology assistant training program culminating in an Associate’s Degree from an institution accredited by the Arkansas Department of Higher Education. Programs must meet the specified curriculum content and fieldwork experience was described by the Arkansas Division of Elementary and Secondary Education. Must meet continuing education requirements of ten (10) clock hours annually pertaining to the designated duties of the SLP Assistant.


Experience: Previous experience as a speech-language pathologist assistant preferred.


Computer Skills: Shall be able to demonstrate an acceptable level of proficiency with computers and programs associated with the position.


Certifications & Licenses: Licensed by DESE or by the Arkansas Board of Examiners in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology (ABESPA).

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Most work is performed in an indoor office environment that is temperature controlled (heated and cooled) according to the season. The sound level ranges from very quiet to moderate depending on the activities being conducted.
