Job Description
  • Certification/License:
    • Valid Texas Teaching Certification in Health required;
    • Certified Health Educator Specialist (CHES) preferred.
  • Lifting: Regular lifting and carrying (40 pounds or less).
  • Works with teachers and employs effective coaching, mentoring, and instructional modeling practices to support high quality instruction and professional growth.
  • Skill in designing, planning, and delivering professional development activities.
  • Collaborates with campus administrators on best practices in the health classroom, WSCC, and CSH programming.
  • Attendance: Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position.
  • Demonstrates cultural competence in interactions with others; is respectful of co-workers; communicates and acts as a team player; promotes teamwork; responds and acts appropriately in confrontational situations.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
  • Ability to convey respect by acknowledging, encouraging, supporting and showing appreciation for others.
  • Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree from accredited college or university in Health education or related discipline required;
    • Master’s degree from accredited college or university in Health education or related discipline preferred.
  • Motion: Repetitive hand motions; including keyboarding and use of mouse; moderate walking.
  • Maintains knowledge of research, developments, and best practices related to subject including the TEKS, National Health Education Standards, the Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child (WSCC) Model, and Coordinated School Health.
  • Skill in planning and providing professional learning, and lesson planning with multiple core-area teachers.
  • Collaborates with campus and District leaders, Student Support Services members including nurses, intervention specialists, and counselors as well as parent and community health partners to strengthen staff capacity, increase student access to health programs and services, and support student health including working with student-led club sponsors to secure safe spaces for all students.
  • Master’s degree from accredited college or university in Health education or related discipline preferred.
  • Facilitates and designs training utilizing evidence-based, effective, and innovative practices.
  • Demonstrates high quality customer service; builds rapport/relationship with the consumer.
  • Knowledge of current teaching methods and pedagogy in Health Education, including the differentiation of instruction based upon student learning differences.
  • Ability to consider academic, social, and emotional needs of students in making decisions about academic settings and accommodations for individual students.
  • Ability to conduct classroom observations, and decide what professional learning to provide for teachers and staff.
  • Designs, provides, and trains others to deliver quality professional development for district personnel to include members of school staff, School Health Advisory Council members (SHAC), and administrators during regular and after-school hours, including some Saturdays.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
  • Posture: Moderate standing; occasional stooping, squatting, kneeling, bending, pushing/pulling, and twisting.
  • Develops and supervises the writing of curriculum-based assessments, lesson plans, and unit guides.
  • Stays current on all curricular, instructional, and assessment evidence-based and effective practices.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both oral and written forms.
  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited college or university in Health education or related discipline required;
  • Knowledge of health/wellness promotion including equitable, inclusive, and diverse instructional practices based on student differences.
  • Applies effective leadership skills to facilitate growth and improvement within health education programming and services.
  • Develops curriculum and supervises writing and revisions for Health Education grades K-12.
  • Ability to conceptualize and to translate complex issues into workable action plans.
  • Experience: 3-5 years’ teaching experience in the content field.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work.
  • Mental Demands: Maintains emotional control under stress; works with frequent interruptions.
  • Skill in interpersonal relationships, including using tact, patience, and courtesy.
  • Environment: Works in an office setting; occasional work outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather); exposure to noise; may require occasional irregular and/or prolonged hours, including weekends.
  • Knowledge of for assessment strategies and construction.
  • Ability to use software to access databases, email, create spreadsheets, and do word processing.
  • Performs all job-related duties as assigned and in accordance with Board rules, policies and regulations. All employees are expected to comply with lawful directives in rare situations driven by need where a team effort is required.
  • Certified Health Educator Specialist (CHES) preferred.
  • Complies with federal time and effort reporting requirements.
  • Ability to incorporate active listening when communicating.
  • Valid Texas Teaching Certification in Health required;
