Job Description
What You Will Do
This position will be filled at either the Software Developer 1 or 2 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.
Join our world-class software development team! We are seeking a software developer to join our Environmental, Safety, Health, Quality, Safeguards, Security and Visualization Solutions Group. Software Developer 1 ($67,800 - $107,700)
The selected candidate will work as a software developer to support the development and maintenance of Occupational Safety and Health applications. The selected candidate will be assigned to various projects based off the needs of the organization and at the discretion of SAE-1 management.
Responsibilities:
  • Foster strong relationships with customers, peers, and service providers.
  • Working as a collaborative team member within our Agile Scrum team framework
  • Support software applications and systems by investigating, designing, documenting, evaluating, and implementing software solutions.
  • Work with customers, product owners and end users to understand business needs.
  • Develop concepts for information system solutions and evaluates the cost effectiveness of those concepts.
  • Identify and address productivity impediments and promote work process improvements.

Software Developer 2 ($81,700-$133,100)
In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, at this level the candidate will be expected to lead smaller projects and teams, mentor other junior developers; be expected to find solutions to complex technical issues; and be regarded as an advanced developer. We will also expect the candidate to evaluate and recommend new tools and technology stacks to ensure that the organization is utilizing the best tools and methodologies in the market.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Technical Knowledge
  • Relational databases (SQL)
  • The syntax, structure, features, and facilities of at least one programming language such as Oracle PL/SQL, Java, JavaScript, C, C++, or Python.
  • Programming and development standards and procedures as well as programming architectures for code reuse
  • Object-oriented programming and design pattern knowledge

Software Life Cycle
Proven software lifecycle knowledge and experience in all phases, including requirements, design, development, and testing with appropriate documentation.
Collaboration
We are looking for someone who can work well in a team-oriented environment with the ability to communicate and collaborate cross-functionally within and outside of the group. In addition, you must have effective interpersonal skills for communicating technical information, building relationships, and resolving conflicts.
Innovation
This position will require you to research new technologies and tools and incorporate their usage into new products and services.
Time Management
You should have strong multitasking capabilities and the ability to work on multiple products and issues simultaneously.
Additional Job Requirements for level 2:
In addition to the duties outlined above, qualification at the higher level requires:
  • Analyze and interpret business rules and workflows for application design.
  • Cypress experience
  • Experience working with Scrum or some other Agile framework.
  • Testing of applications through unit and integration tests and following CI/CD processes
  • Web security and secure coding practices
  • Software version control (Git/GitLab), build automation tools and CI/CD
  • Knowledge and experience working with tools such as REST, JSON, XML, HTML, CSS, and UI/UX

Education/Experience - level 1
This position requires a relevant bachelor's degree and a minimum of 2 years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Education/Experience - level 2
This position requires a relevant bachelor's degree and a minimum of 5 years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience working with Agile (Scrum) methodologies and continues integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD)
  • Experience upgrading, supporting, extending, and enhancing Commercial off the Shelf Products (COTS) or Cloud applications.
  • Work well in a team-oriented environment with the ability to communicate and collaborate cross-functionally within and outside of the group. In addition, you must have effective interpersonal skills for communicating technical information, building relationships, and resolving conflicts.
  • Research new technologies and tools, incorporate their usage into new products and services.
  • Experience gathering or generating technical requirements and creating designs based on those requirements.
  • Experience customizing JIRA/Confluence sites for the application lifecycle management, especially in DevOps.
  • Strong multitasking capabilities and the ability to work on multiple products and issues simultaneously.

Clearance
This position requires Q clearance access authorization. Applicants must have the ability to obtain and maintain DOE clearances, which normally requires US citizenship.
Work Location:The work location for this position is telework and is located in Los Alamos, NM. Telework is defined as working from offsite but within 2hours ground commute of this location. Reporting onsite may be periodically necessary. All work locations are at the discretion of management and can change at any time with appropriate notice.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details
Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.
Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
  • Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory.
