Senior Scientist, Chemistry Jobs

Position Summary

Perform research in the laboratory as a synthetic and medicinal chemist applying the latest knowledge and techniques in the field toward the optimization of DFC’s (drug Fc conjugates). Advance assigned programs and contribute to the identification of a lead or development candidate.
Responsibilities

• Design and execute syntheses of complex organic molecules on a milligram to multi-gram scale with some guidance
• Use state of the art techniques to characterize intermediates and final compounds
• Use advanced laboratory techniques to purify mixtures of compounds
• Use medicinal chemistry tools and techniques to plan and design synthetic targets
• Rationally design a series of DFC’s for a pharmacological target of interest with some guidance
• Communicate results to co-workers and management in both oral and written manner and assist in the preparation of patent applications

Minimum Qualifications

• Ability to work effectively in teams and collaborate with other scientists including immunologists, protein chemists, structural biologists, and pharmacologists
• Effective oral and written English communication skills
• Firsthand knowledge of advanced synthesis, purification and spectroscopic techniques utilized in the preparation and characterization of complex organic molecules
• Ability to work with guidance and show flexibility when needed
• Minimum 3 to 5 years of post-graduate experience working in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry or a related position as a laboratory scientist
• Ph.D. in synthetic organic chemistry, a combination of relevant education and applicable job experience may be considered
• Demonstrated ability to design synthetic targets and successfully execute their syntheses with some guidance
• Familiarity with standard laboratory instrumentation, personal computers and office and laboratory software

Preferred Qualifications

• Several first author or co-author publications in peer-reviewed journals highlighting post-graduate research and accomplishments
• Firm understanding of modern Medicinal Chemistry concepts and the ability to use them in the design of target molecules or to improve the properties of existing conjugates
• Familiarity with Structure-Based Drug Design
• Familiarity with protein conjugation techniques
• Previous supervisory responsibility either directly with laboratory personnel or with an external CRO
• Previous experience in oncology research

Senior Scientist Chemistry salary range: $115,000 to $145,000 per year.
The final salary offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the years of relevant industry experience, education, and skills/abilities.
