Position Overview
The R&D Battery Engineer will be responsible for development, selection and validation active materials across the anode and cathode portfolio. This includes developing and characterizing active/passive materials, developing slurry and coating recipes, building cells, and cell testing. This individual will be a key contributor in advancing NantG Power's competitive advantage to drive energy density, power density, safety, and materials sustainability improvements at scale. The ideal candidate will have a strong record of scientific achievement in the areas of Li-ion batteries, nanomaterials, and/or electrochemistry.
Primary responsibilities:
  • Cell testing and data presentation
  • Mixing and coating at benchtop- and pilot-scale
  • Cell assembly at the mAh- and Ah-scale
  • Collaborate with cell modeling teams and battery engineering groups to verify accuracy of performance models
  • Characterization using standard materials science tools
  • Other Duties and Responsibilities as assigned
  • Collaborate with QC team to establish acceptance criteria for all incoming materials
  • Design and develop the next generation of lithium-ion cells
Job Qualifications
  • Ability to use statistical tools to support proposed solutions
  • Self-starter with ability to manage multiple projects and initiatives
  • Strong communication, documentation and organizational skills
  • Understanding of electrochemical processes as they relate to lithium batteries
  • Resourceful problem solver with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work as a team player as well as provide creative out-of-the-box solutions
  • Experience with data processing (Microsoft Excel or other) and statistical methods (Minitab or other)
  • B.S./M.S. in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry or related technical field
  • Strong understanding of current and historical state-of-the-art in the battery industry
  • Strong understanding of materials characterization tools such as SEM, XRD, XPS, Raman, BET, TGA/DSC, and chromatography techniques
  • 2+ years of experience in electrochemistry
  • Knowledge of pouch, coin cell, cylindrical, and prismatic cell assembly at a lab and pilot scale
Job Location: Culver City, CA
The specific rate will depend on the successful candidate’s qualifications, prior experience.
$89,000.00 (entry-level qualifications) to $98,000.00 (highly experienced)
