Job Overview
The Brelidze laboratory in the Department of Pharmacology and Physiology at Georgetown University Medical Center studies regulatory mechanisms of ion channels with a variety of methods, including electrophysiology, biochemistry and zebrafish animal models. Ion channels are essential for the regulation of cellular excitability and defects in ion channel function are associated with numerous diseases. For more information on the laboratory, please visit

We have a great Research Assistant opportunity for a motivated recent graduate who wants to gain wet lab experience, to learn various methods, and to participate in the research that will impact future clinical treatments.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Perform Zebrafish breeding and conduct behavioral experiments.
  • Perform duties as assigned to support the research activities in the lab
  • Maintain lab records
  • Conduct two-electrode voltage clamp electrophysiology experiments
  • Perform standard molecular biology and biochemistry techniques, including plasmid amplification, subcloning, molecular mutagenesis, PCR, and protein expression and purification
Work Interactions
The Research Assistant reports to and supports the research efforts of the PI, Dr. Brelidze, postdoctoral fellows, and graduate students in the lab.
Qualifications
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • High School diploma or Associate’s degree and 1 year of relevant experience required or equivalent combination of education experience - preference for Bachelor’s degree
  • Strong communication skills
Preferred qualification
Experience in neuroscience and using animal models
