Research Analyst, Medicinal Chemistry - Drug Hunter (drughunter.com)

Drug Hunter (drughunter.com) is a rapidly growing, scientists-led pharmaceutical industry publication focusing on the science of drug discovery. This role will primarily be involved in the researching, writing, and production of high-quality content on technically complex scientific topics for publication and to support databases.
This is a remote position based in the United States, and both prospective full-time and freelance/consulting contributors are encouraged to apply. Location in the State of Oregon is preferred but not required. Scientific conference and event travel and attendance may be required for full-time contributors.
Compensation is highly competitive and commensurate with applicant experience.

Responsibilities
·Efficiently conducts research based on reputable primary sources, peer-reviewed journals, databases, expert
interviews, FDA and other government documents, and other primary sources to support statements of fact in research articles with a rigorous interpretation of data
·Quickly and accurately prepares chemical schemes, tables, figures, and illustrations using chemical drawing software such as ChemDraw
·Clearly presents and communicates complex, scientific information in easy-to-read, digestible short-form articles, slide presentations, and infographics, while preserving the scientific accuracy of underlying data by partnering with internal research team members and external experts
·Reads, writes, and speaks in tones of voice appropriate for audiences of different levels, from students, to early-career scientists, to industry professionals and investors, with empathy to the underlying needs of the audience
·Quickly grasps concepts from new fields of science and technology, with an ability to connect the dots for how new scientific developments can impact areas of industry need
·Maintains a general understanding of scientific concepts within organic and medicinal chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology, pharmacology, and a sense of what is state-of-the-art in each field
·Maintains an awareness of new developments in industries involved in novel drug discovery, such as the pharmaceutical and biotech industries
·Cultivates and develops relationships with a network of industry and scientific experts
·Engages and builds relationships with the industrial and academic scientific communities, including through presenting and hosting online and in-person presentations, group events, 1:1 calls, and round-table discussions, continuously exploring new ways to add value to the industrial drug discovery community
·Contributes to the editorial process, ensuring supporting assets such as written article content, designed graphics, and videography are proofed, technically accurate, and produced in a timely fashion, and of high scientific quality, and that original, editorial, sponsored, and marketing content publishing goals are regularly met
·Contributes high-quality feature articles, editorial articles, and perspective articles of interest to pharmaceutical professionals, and provides briefs and article proposals to the editorial team based on industry insights
·Develops, prototypes, and deploys concepts for new series of content and content format based on reader feedback and industry needs
·Fosters a positive culture within the industry and editorial team aligned with the mission and values of the company, prioritizing facts, community, clarity, helpfulness, teamwork, and accountability
·Reviews, edits, and fact-checks the research of contributing authors or team members, providing critical and constructive feedback for improvement
Qualifications:
·Strong track record of well-researched and well-presented articles on relevant topics for audiences in the physical and/or life sciences
·Advanced degree (MS, PhD, and/or post-doc) in organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, chemical biology, or a closely related discipline with 2+ years of experience covering or working in the biotech and pharmaceutical industries, or BS/MS plus 7+ years of work experience related to the biotech/pharma industries, with a high-level understanding of the science of small and large molecule drug discovery and a general understanding of the inner workings of the pharmaceutical industry
·Demonstrated ability to pick up new fields of expertise quickly and work with agility in a growth environment
·Digitally native, comfortable with social media, software, and new technologies and platforms, and an eagerness to apply new best practices to a growing organization
·Excellent written and verbal communication abilities with both technical and non-technical audiences, as well as decision-making, leadership, and analytical skills, ability to make reasoned decisions, contribute to and lead cross-functional teams, and excellent organizational skills
The interview process
Applicants should include a portfolio summary including relevant research and writing samples and a resume. Qualified applicants will be invited to submit a 300-word molecule highlight with figures on a small molecule drug discovery program.
The interview will involve a presentation of the applicant’s past research (if applicable) or a pitch for a story in a relevant area. More complex sample research, writing and editing projects may be requested during the interview process.
Three references from former managers or senior colleagues are expected for full-time applicants.
