Job Description

TITLE: MANUFACTURING CNC PROGRAMMER

THE POSITION

Job Summary:

The Manufacturing CNC Programmer is responsible for creating machining programs for a variety of machining centers such as lathes with or without bar loaders, vertical and horizontal machining centers and multi-spindle machines. In the role you will develop G&M code programs via CAD/CAM software based on 2D and 3D models. The role will also develop, evaluate, and improve manufacturing methods utilizing knowledge of product design, material and parts, tooling and production capabilities.

The Mfg CNC Programmer is the go-to technical expert for the associates within the machining operations, providing input and assists in training associates on machine setups, program debugs, tooling, machine problem solving also while continually looking and partnering with operations, engineering and quality associates to improve throughput, flow, quality, cost and supports root cause and corrective action.

The right candidate will be responsive, reliable, customer focused and willing to spend considerable time on the shop floor working alongside the operations team.

This position reports to the Vice President of Manufacturing.

Duties and Responsibilities:

This job description is not intended to be all inclusive and the employee will also perform other reasonably related business duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor and other management as required.

  • Assist/direct in researching for new capital equipment or ideas to support process changes
  • Work with tooling vendors to utilize the most efficient tooling on the market and to incorporate into our programs
  • Assist/direct in setup reduction events
  • Assist in development, coordination and implementation of technical training for employees
  • Design processes and procedures and write setup sheets to aid operator in setting up part
  • Work with Engineering associates on new product designs and recommend design changes for manufacturing purposes
  • Create new and modify existing programs as needed utilizing Gibbs Cam software
  • Design and assist in design of fixtures, collets and tooling to fabricate product
  • Work with engineering associates for possible design changes to possibly reduce cycle and setup time
  • Diagnose machines to discern between programming vs machine issues
  • Choose tooling, feeds/speeds for optimal performance and business value
  • Assist associates with programs/machine operations not associated with debugs
  • Assist in design of facility layout
  • Embrace Lean and continuous improvement ideas and vision
  • Review Engineering change notices for drawing changes that require program updates
  • Perform basic CNC control troubleshooting
  • Train associates on new equipment
  • Assist associates during debug process to make required adjustments
  • Recommend methods and processes
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives including kaizens, layout events and other lean programs

THE CANDIDATE:

Education / Experience

  • Knowledge of Algebra, Trigonometry and Geometry
  • Experience with programming horizontal and vertical milling centers
  • Must have experience with a wide variety of part types including barstock, casting and forgings
  • Experience with Gibbs Cam a plus, but experience with any CAD/CAM system required
  • Must possess the ability to contribute to the development of new processes or systems, and resolve technical problems
  • Experience working with a broad range of materials including exotic alloys, stainless steel, aluminum and plastic
  • Associate Tech Degree +2 years programming experience, or 5+ years programming experience
  • Knowledge of blueprint reading and GD&T
