Job Description

This position is located in the Motor Carrier Information Center - Headquarters, Blythewood, SC.

Responsibilities of the Motor Carrier Specialist
  • Evaluates documents provided by the customer to determine if the appropriate and compliant documentation is being submitted regarding IRP and IFTA. Verifies carrier’s status utilizing FMCSA/PRISM and/or other state/federal system applications prior to issuing credentials. Ensures customer account is updated and accurate in MCS system (i.e., suspended, closed, revoked, out of service, etc.).
  • Retains accurate department records for state, federal and program reporting; ensures carrier's information is stored in the document management system so that supporting documentation is made available for peer review, audits, member jurisdictions, enforcement, administrative hearings, suspensions, cancellations, and data uploads. Researches and provides customer records/reports for upper management.
  • Performs other duties as required by their supervisor, manager, and the Deputy Director of MCS.
  • Answers complex and detailed inquiries on a daily basis concerning DMV laws, policies, and procedures as it related to Motor Carrier services through various modes of communication such as telephone, email, or written correspondence. Consistently meets unit goals and objectives as defined for quality customer service.
  • Responsible for processing MCS Information center call rotation and email rotation as required including office-related tasks associated with the daily operations of all MCS program.
  • Reconciles inventory, completes end of day processes, prepares summary report of daily activities, and accounts for and balances revenue collected with transactions processed.
  • Maintains professional growth and development to keep abreast of the programs administered through MCS, the MCS systems, and state/federal regulations and reporting.
  • Reports productivity stats daily and maintains output percentages set by the department.

Minimum Qualifications
A high school diploma plus two years job experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and related experience.
Additional Requirements
  • Proficient in basic computer skills. Must have technical ability to properly operate muli-line phone set with headset.
  • Works in general office environment. May be required to work extended hours outside of normal scheduled work week.
  • Ability to learn and explain policy and procedures to MCS customers. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • The work requires sitting for prolonged periods of time and significant time spent at a computer terminal.
  • Works under general supervision after a period of training. Must ensure that the SCDMV policies and operational procedures are followed.
  • Must be able to lift 10-15lbs.
