Job Description

Scope of Position

The Performing and Visual Arts Program Manager for The James Cancer Hospital is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations, implementation, and evaluation of the hospital-wide performing and visual arts program, which includes the Heather Pick Music Program, MusicCare Program and James Art Gallery. This individual will ensure the creation of an environment that will help mitigate discomfort, stress, and anxiety for cancer patients and their visitors during their stay at The James and other inpatient/ambulatory locations. The Program Manager will facilitate live Heather Pick Music performances at The James and other locations through contracted and MusicCare volunteer musicians. In addition, this position will coordinate curation of the rotating James Art Gallery on the first floor of The James, located at the top of the JEGS Foundation Grand Staircase. Oversees new contracts with artists and contractual relationships. Manages all volunteers and students needed to execute program. Works to develop key internal and external relationships with key donors, James Development staff, Marketing, Facilities, College of Medicine ‘Medicine & the Arts’ Committee, legal, and hospital personnel at all levels of administration and service. Collaborates with key stakeholders to develop and manage a program strategic plan, deliverables, and reporting. Responsible for ensuring that all deliverables of the program(s) are met and communicated accurately and timely to stakeholders throughout hospital sites and externally. The department typically operates Monday through Friday – evenings and weekends; hours will vary.

Position Summary

The OSUCCC-James strives to create a cancer-free world by integrating scientific research with excellence in education and patient-centered care. The Performing Arts and Visual Program Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations, implementation, and evaluation of the performing and visual arts program, which includes the Heather Pick Music Program, MusicCare Program and James Art Gallery. This individual manages all communication related to the Program with internal and external stakeholders. Program Manager will be responsible for recruiting, selecting, and coordinating live music performances at The James, and other inpatient/ambulatory locations for the Heather Pick Memorial Concert series and MusicCare program volunteers, performances, and schedules. This position will coordinate management, collection, and installation of art, and works closely with internal and external stakeholders to showcase in the James Art Gallery, including exhibition events and tours. This position will manage administrative needs and program coordination for the Heather Pick Music Program, MusicCare and James Art Gallery. Ensures that proper performance licenses are obtained and maintained (i.e., BMI, ASCAP, SESAC, etc.). Identifies opportunities within the program for growth and expansion. Determines data measures for the program to assess benefit and areas of development. Completes data analysis and all reporting requirements needed for reporting to donors through The James Development Office. Oversees contractual relationships required for day-to-day administration of program. Manages students and volunteers for the program. Work closely with Patient Experience Volunteer Services to ensure that all James volunteers have met initial and annual renewal requirements. Participates in the College of Medicine ‘Medicine & the Arts’ Committee. Manage additional administrative needs as identified.

Minimum Qualifications

For Hire: Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience, in Fine Arts, Music, Performing Arts, or other related field with a strong understanding of both performing and visual arts. Demonstrated experience in program development and program management skills, project implementation and evaluation; self-directed, flexible, and detail-oriented; excellent written and oral communication skills required; sensitivity to and understanding of the continuous and supportive care needs of the patient/family with cancer in healthcare environments. Working knowledge of production and installation equipment (i.e., lighting, mixer boards, microphones, and other PA system attributes). Proficiency in computer applications including word processing, spreadsheets, and graphics software desired.
